Yes it is a viscosity issue so dont confuse the matter with the type of base oil!

I guess the question is can you get a 20w50 non-mineral oil? I've not seen any, but then as I use valvoline or castrol I must confess i've not really looked. The stuff that blew my engine & gearbox was a Shell synthetic, but I can't remember the viscosity figure now after about 12 years.
I have a good friend who uses and swears by Castrol 'R' in his rally Cooper 'S' Mk.1. Well, it certainly smells nice :D

I've used 10w40 and 20w50 in my engines, and didn't notice any difference.

Try it, and keep and eye on the oil pressure gauge.

Yes there are loads of 20W50 synthetic oils out there!

The viscosity of an oil mainly comes from the additive package so you can have whatever viscosity you like really (within reason) independantly of the type of base oil.

Hence my comment, that you should not try and link the viscosity of an oil with the grade/group of base oil, and you should not say that synthetic is bad. You only mean it is bad because you see most synthetic oils on sale are low viscosity (0W40, 5W40 etc) and therefore not suitable for a Mini!
