Here is the update as promised.
First of all, rather than just putting the frame back up we put it up then i welded it together as last time it kept taking its self apart in the wind -

And we put heavy duty plastic on the roof for added protection.

All the paint and other bits arrived -
Posted Image

Got the inline air filter on the gun ( Very important ) -
Posted Image

And then there was nothing for it but to start painting.
I decided to do the boot and the bonnet first -

Had a little mis hap but this is not a big problem and will be rectified -

And that's what today looked like. For those that are interested i am using 2K Jet Gloss Black
I have to say im very pleased with the results so far and weather permitting i will be continuing tomorrow.

Would love to hear your comments

Andrew.

Is that orange peel in the base coat or clear? If thats in the clear after a flat and polish that will look immense!

If thats a high solid 2k paint then is wont need clear coat. Im sure clear coat on a high solid 2k will magnify the colour and help it fade quicker. If you were to do it base coat and clear the base coat will dry matt and the clear coat gives it the shine and protection.

It cost near enough £200 including the gun paint and othe bits.
So what are you saying ? I shouldn't put a clear coat on ?

I wouldnt. High solid 2k is glossy. Hardwearing and doesnt need clear. The clear will magnify uv rays and speed up ageing etc. With basecoat and clear the base coat put the colour onto the car, that then dries flat as a pancake then the clear goes straight on once dry to give it that shine and protection.

If youra is high solid and dried shiny, i wouldnt clear coat it. A good flat and polish and re coat if needed.

Hope this helps you Andrew. Cannot wait to see this finished!

You've got me thinking now, I work ( Part time ) in a spray shop and we always clear coat no matter what colour.
You say that it will speed up the fading but won't it give the base coat added scratch resistance ?

I work in a Classic car restoration garage. You will clear coat on top of "basecoat" you seem to have a high solid 2k meaning clear is not required. But clear is required on basecoat. Search spraying basecoat on youtube. You will see it dry matt. The clear gives the shine.
