Right, i had another go this evening and still no joy. i am getting a little annoyed with this now.

Here are a few pics of what i have done, can somebody please let me know if anything is wrong.

I have attached a live feed from the relay to the starter solenoid with an inline fuse.
i have spliced into the main beam wiring and connected that straight to my toggle switch.
i have a cable from the relay to the second connection on the toggle switch.
i have connected each earths on spots to bodywork
i have connected each live from the spots to a cable running from the relay.
i have also earthed the relay.

Am i missing anything?

I doubt your earth at the slam panel stiffener is up to it! It's not much of a panel. Can you hear the relay switching when the new switch is closed, the lights are on and the headlamp dip switch is toggled back and forth? What have you connected to which terminal number on the relay? Looks like it should all work to be honest. Is the fuse good?

I am struggling to find a good place to put the earth from the spot lights, thats was the closest hole that i could find.
the fuse is good, i have checked this numerous times throughout.
My main beam stalk in the car isnt working properly as there is a it of lastic broken off but i can wedge a jumper between that and my steering wheel to keep on.
I have tried various different combinations of the toggle switch and headlight switch and flasher/main beam stalk, i cannot understand whats wrong.

I have the relay connected as follows:
87 to spot lights
86 to toggle switch
85 to earth
30 to starter solenoid with inline fuse.

i bought this wiring kit from ebay, it says on the packet how to wire it, when it says connect 86 to switch, does that mean main beam switch or toggle switch, a i have a spare piggy back connector that came with it, am i supposed to connect my main beam to 86 on the relay and using the piggyback connector, run a wire from that to my switch, thus having only one connection to my toggle switch?

The toggle switch needs two connections, it doesn't matter what way around they are: -
- one connects to position 86 on the relay
- the other to the main beam live feed

Remember that the spots will only work if the main beam is on and the switch is in the on position.

It does sound like you're very close.

I'm so close yet so far!
I'm going to check all my connections and double check the earths.
I have read on different forums of people using different numbers on the relay for different things.
I know I have it correct, just not quite ;)

This was a while ago so is probably resolved, but to put my tuppence worth in, I had a set of spots that had one wire, all wired in correctly using the independent power from the solenoid etc and the switching taken from the mainbeam feed, I am a bit lucky here that my car hasn't had anyone ripping the wiring apart and all the original connectors are still there.......

Unfortunately I had bought some ******* lights and they started rusting very quickly. I bought some from stainless steel ones Huddersfield but these came with a separate earth, I just ran the cable to the bolt that holds the spots in place and that all seemed ok?
