Is there not enough pipe to cut the flare off, swap the union and then re-flare the end?
That would save replacing the pipe.

Yes there is Ben, but it's now got me doubting whether the connection to the valve is right and that I haven't just been an idiot and plumbed it the wrong way round (this is despite trying it on the bench). I think I'll re-do it. I don't have a flaring tool nor know anyone who does and I don't want to buy one for one job so I shall rope in the help of Mrs Bounce or one of my mates and get them to hold stuff whilst I get twirly with the ratchet. Again...

Re the top damper mount, If you haven't already (after picture was taken) wind the spring seat all the way to the bottom then try again or get Mrs Bounce sat in the car to add some weight

When i had mine in bits last winter Dave i replaced the front to rear brake pipe as it seemed daft not too as it was old and mine had different ends so i made doubly sure i checked which was which before i fitted it as the front was a right sod to get in and i didnt want to do it twice.
Eastern auto spares make up brake pipes but the garage that did my welding made mine up for me.

Shoes have a leading chamfered end to them which should face towards the rear of the car, sorry if teaching you to suck eggs!

From what I can see, the springs look correct but the shoes do look to be backwards - however this in itself shouldn't prevent the drums fitting.
I have previously heard of shoes with linings that were too thick, although this was some time ago now. Do you have any used shoes you could try to see it it assembles up correctly then?

did you compare the shoes that didn't fit with the Mintex ones to see what the difference is?
I wonder if they were for another car perhaps?

Don't feel too bad. It happens to everybody. I have found that at my age (and frame of mind), I am better off not trying to spend a lot of hours in a row trying complete a bunch of things. It works better for me to do some planning, do some work and check it as I go along and recheck it when I am done. Otherwise, I start to make mistakes upon mistakes.
It took me a long time to replace my mini's gearbox doing just a little bit a time. After reading of all the horror stories about missing parts, parts installed wrong, engines not starting and so on, I expected the worst. To my surprise, everything went well and everything worked perfectly. Now, bad parts get you every time even when you get them from a reputable source.
Cheers!
