I want to make my minis exhaust sound a bit better than normal and i want to make it have the sound of a back fire. i dont mean these flamer kits that you can get to make the excess fuel ignite i mean the same sort of noise you get from a Cooper S and John Cooper Works exhaust (the pooping when on over run). Can anyone help??

Thanx alot

Fit a large bore back box like a twin exit DTM....then buy a large hat and sunglasses to hide your face from the world.

;)

Have to agree,

however nice it sounds, I am not a fan of big exhausts on a Mini at all!

RC40 Standard bore exhaust for me!

Most after market exhausts will pop and burble when attached to the right engine. Theres nothing cheap you can do to the exhaust to make this happen, it happens on highly tuned engines usually because of the overlap of wilder cams which can let fuel into the exhaust.

Ahh yes.. the old scavenging effect....As said above...the only real way to get your exhaust to sound like its connected to something special is to connect it to something special. Agreed you can make it noisy by fitting a large bore tail pipe, but that wont give you the burble and pop that you get from a properly sorted engine.

+1

i run straight pipe through a single silencer and dual tips. all custom (had to be to fit properly). second gear if i let off after a good pull it pops and burbles like mad. i love it

i have an maniflow exhaust going into a twin box rc40 and if lift off then blip the throttle i can get it pop , and then if i accelerate hard it sometimes spits a flame out ive been told , might be because of over fueling , i don't know to be honest

mine does that minus the flames and i have an MPI engine. i have tuned plenty of carb engines that do that with a large exhaust. i woulnt worry about it. unless it is like an actual belch of fire. that isnt good

Ok. So what is an exhaust then? Its a bunch of pipes that take the gases away from your bores. The size and length of these pipes are what will either help or hinder the removal of these gasses. So the next thing to think about is what makes an exhaust pop and burble? Its the engine! As said above the pops are unburnt fuel being burnt in the hot exhaust. Now to get unburnt fuel into the exhaust you need to have the exhaust valve and the inlet valve open at the same time. By this I mean that the inlet valve should be starting to open before the exhaust valve has fully closed. This creates the effect of sucking slightly more charge into the bore before the piston has actually started its charge stroke. This can only be done by fitting a cam with overlap. Now I know some people can get flames and bangs from the exhaust by having a very poorly tuned engine. But whats the point of noise unless you can back it up with power.

Yer you could just richen up the mixture so it spits unburnt fuel on the overrun.

or if you wanted you could create a little valve operated by a switch that puts a bit of fuel into the exhaust manifold, not disturbing your engines tune, and when switched off will not cost anymore fuel....well not just a valve you need to ensure it doesn't ignite the rest of the fuel line...actually this idea is ridiculous

OR

You could live without

Hi
one thing you can try , is to move the silencer towards the engine , and have a long open tail pipe
this will give the car a rumble / parp like a old minor when changing gear or at certain revs
no need for a large tail pipe 2 - 2.5 inch should do

don't do as a friend of mine did - switch the ignition key off and on -
His steering lock came on ;)
it will also kill the cat - (the fluffy and ceramic ones)
