my grille is currently hanging on with about 3 screws! who knows where the others are...
are they al the same spec and where can i get them?

My grille is fixed using 4 screws across the top and 3 down each side screwed thru the chrome side trims.

If I remember I used all the same screws but did use stainless for durability and appearance.

Try your local motor factor/halfords/B&Q altho if you want stainless you might be better sizing them first then ordering on net.

sensible advice but my closest halfords is nearly 100 miles away with the addition of a ferry journey!! it's gonna have to be a net order i think...

I brought a load of stainless pozi screws from screwfix. Can't remember size but then I did buy a 100 of each of various sizes on the smaller end of what they do.
Only thing you tend to find on grill mounts is the holes grow, so sometimes you need to use a bigger screw

yeah, thinking stainless would be the way ahead - might try to fix them into some rubber too, breaks my heart scraping the paint every time the grille goes off and on!

Dump the screws and fit a set of Grille Buttons instead. Fitting them gets rid of all the corrosion issues associated with screws and also means that you can remove the grille for servicing/maintenance quickly and so much more easily!!

how do you go about fitting them, and what happens to the sides which are usually held on by screws?

You drill two holes in the front panel (one at either end of the grille) and pass the two bolts through the panel from the back and then put a nut on each (so that you effectively have two long studs poking out of the front panel). Then you drill two corresponding holes in the uprights of the grille, so that you can slide the grille onto the studs, (with the ends of the studs poking through the gaps between the grille slats). Then the grille is held in place by the two large screw on buttons that you tighten finger tight, (with a big thick rubber washer between the buttons and the grille so that you don't crush the slats of the grille when you tighten them up.)

The grille ends can be pop riveted to the grille, so it lifts on and off as one unit. But many people don't bother with this and just trap the grille ends between the grille and the front panel, so that they are just held in place by the grille when it's tightened up.

sounds interesting -photos would be good, it doesn't sound that bad for installing but seeing where holes are required would be good, will need to get diggin in the shed for the rivet gun tho!

Ok..... here's some photos then:

Firstly.... The two bolts/studs mounted on the front panel...



The corresponding holes drilled at either end of the grille....



....& in "Close Up"



.....Now with the grill slid into place



.....and with the rubber washers fitted



.... and finally the finshed article.... Simples!!!




....If I were to fit them again I would probably move the bolt nearest the camera more toward the centre of the grille a little, to make them more evenly spaced. I also would'nt have tightened this end up so tightly the first time I fitted them, as you can see I managed to bend/flatten the slats a little by being too heavy handed!!.... But hey "You live and learn" and all that!!

Another option if you don't want grille buttons sticking out of your grille is to fit a bolt to the grille and then attach behind the front panel (i.e in the engine bay) using spacers and wingnuts.

I use tie wraps and cut em off when taking the grill off
