Err.....Yes......A fuse you say? Well.... ummm.......NO!!! But I will get one fitted soon. At the moment it just gets a live feed from the ignition cct and then runs through the switch. I know, im going to get shot by the saftey police. But its just one of those jobs I never got round to. I would say an in line 10 amp fuse would be plenty... but you should check with the supplier of your pump for the correct size.

Switched earth or live?

Switched earth is normally for items that draw a high current, this should be on a 15A fuse and the wire MUST be rated higher than this unless yo uwant the wire to be the fuse ???

Are you using a relay to switch it on ? ie feed from the ignition live to the relay powering the fuse in which case I would use the simpler method of switched live, otherwise definately go for switched earth to reduce the circuit loading on the switch and power circuit.

Consider yourself shot Andy ;) It really is no fun to have a thermal event whilst driving :)

How many times have you had a fuse blow on another circuit ?? well that fuse could have quite easily have saved your life .............

I was going to mount the pump in the boot, run a live direct from battery, to pump with suitable fuse and wire. Was going to install a small switch up front and run the negative via this and earth to body.
