i just got this mini, picked it up last saturday and started work on it getting ready to take the engine out. so far what has been done seats and dash been taken out almost all bolts holding engine in have been losened exhaust been unbolted just one left to undo, master brake servo taken off and clutch disconected, also went to work on it with a screw driver in the rusty bits. at first thought it was good and solid sills and back end but screw driver found rust spot on the drivers side sill great more work to do. any way will have picks so far.
will be great to see what you think

Jordan hi, welcome, it would help if you post the pictures the other way round. What I can make out sofar is; 2 new scuttle end panels with stiffener, both footwell repairs and both flitch panels top and bottem repair, and a few repair pieces in bottem windscreen panel. As far as the engine, cant tell as yet but could do with a clean up. Did he turn over?

Hi Jordan, it looks like your going to be busy over the next few months. Once you start stripping it down then the list of panels will most likely grow arms and legs. Best of luck with your restoration and I look forward to watching it develop.

Cheers, Sean

today my mig welder turned up and tested it on some of the panels that would be getting cut off worked very well producing lots of penetration and a good even bead along the panal. i have ordered some new panels i have ordered drivers side front floor with a panels to do the inner sill patch, i have also ordered both flitch panels and i have also ordered a new drivers side jacking point with cross member support bult in it as i found out poking with the trusty screwdriver that it was roten out completly these panels should keep me busy for a while. on my next order i will order the front end inclueding the scuttle panel and also drivers side outer sill and hopefuly that will be all the panels i need. i might also replace the n/s foot well as well as a jack in its life has pushed it up a bit and also there is a small hole in it.
any way here is some pics of the welder it has an amps range of 30 to 135 and when i was trying it out i was just using it on the 30 amp setting which was doing well with the thickness

did a bit of work on it today took all the sound deadening off the floor pans. found another small little hole in the n/s foot well, im thinking that i might just replace the floor on that side to make sure there is no rust left in it. any way willl keep you updated

Nice welder, I have the Clarke 135TE and looks more or less similar to yours and is a fantastic bit of kit. I would invest in either buying a big gas bottle or renting one. I currently rent my Argon bottle from BOC. Good luck with your project!

got good amount of work done now all front end has been chopped off just leaving the inner wings which i will be putting a few patches in them. i have also cut out the right hand flitch panel and have also chopped out the right hand floor and welded in a new one which is all good and strong now with no rust. got a big order from mini sport coming a about a day so should be doing the left hand side soon. atm all work has stopped as last friday i had a irratation in my right eye and went to have it checked out as it didnt go away and found out today that i have a bit of metal in my eye so i am having to go to an eye centre tomorrow morning to get it taken out. then hopefuly if i feel like it i will carry on with progress. will put some pictures up when i get them off my phone. and also i was just seeing how you put more picture on here as i have no more space to upload pictures unless it has changed with the new update

my mini sports order finally came today so will crack on with the work next is to do the left hand floor i will try and keep as much of the floor that is already there but take all the rust out this is so it will make for an easier and quicker job. i will then cut out the old flitch panel and weld in a new one also got to finish off welding in the rh hand one but cant find a c clamp that is big enough to get in the bottom of the foot well to hold the flitch panel tight against it, any one know where i can get one cheaply??? also got some more welding wire and a grease gun. i would use my welder using the gas but i am working out side and i have to get a new regulater as the rubber washer that helps it seal has come out and i cant find anywhere which just sells them so using flux cored at the mo which is alright and giving good welds but very dirty lol using the wirer brush a lot to make sure i get good welds. also i was seeing is do i have to use etch primer when preparing the metal for paint i have cleaned some of the floor and just put on red oxide for now, is this also to just paint on top of or do i have to take it off and apply etch to the floor.

cheers
jordan
