To undo the pinion nut I tried clamping the gearbox to the bench. But that wasn't feeling very sturdy.

Also the nut seemed very tight as I broke two socket extensions.

So I drilled some holes in a metal frame & bolted it to that. That gave  alot more rigid position to undo the nut.

I'll use this frame again to tighten & for future gearboxes.

Gearbox is slowly coming apart.

Only grabbing an hour or so when I can.

It's fairly smooth so far, following the workshop manual.

Still no idea what I'm doing, but hopefully all will become clear!

If you don't mind me asking, which engine paint did you use as the colour looks a lot better than the one I bought

Hello Daz,

It was one from eBay several years ago.

This may be the seller? Link

But I can't believe I paid that much?

I agree it's a better shade of green than the Carplan or similar.

Got the gearbox stripped down.

Scrubbed the casing inside & out.

Gave it a quick coat of paint before starting rebuild.

I haven't stopped working on this project. It's just been very very slow.

I've got the gearbox together. Just attaching the final parts.

Very good customer support from Guessworks.

Hoping to start accelerating this build in spring.

Well it's been over a year since the last post. But it has had some work done honest.

The gearbox took some time to get right, but all done now. Had to come apart again several times. made for good practice.

I've done the idler gap, next for the engine & box to join up.

Picture is a bit crap, but best I could get in failing light.

I had debating whether to use an alloy, chrome or original green rocker cover.

Inspired by JohnR's rocker cover cleanup, I've gone for the green. More classic look.

After alot of scrubbing I got the original paint off the outside & 50 years of baked on grime from the inside.

So far so good.

Glad I could be of assistance! I do love a shiny green engine - I painted my last rocker cover satin black but I might go with green on the 1275. keep up the good work.

I've had a bit of charge on the engine. Just want to get on with this & other projects now.

Engine getting close to being complete.

Flywheel housing & flywheel/clutch on.

I went through four old oil pipes before I gave up & bought a braided hose version. They were all too old & rusty or early type.

Hopefully get this all rounded up this week.
