Looking forward to this thread progressing as I have a '69 MKII in Almond Green waiting it's turn for the MIG Welder and a shopping list with M-Machine. I am sure this will be a corker if the MK3 is anything to go by.

Not massive progress, but progress all the same.

Crank back in..!

I wanted to wash it out in my parts cleaner. But the cleaner had been stood for a while & was growing a new life form.

Cleaner cleaned & then crank cleaned. Oil ways blown out with an air line.

Looking to get the crank in properly asap.

Crank & main caps are all in & happy now.

End float was 0.005 so would like to get some more thrust washers to bring that down a bit.

Been a bit busy this week making space & picking up a new friend in the workshop for Bob!

Something more to play with. Might even be some parallel restoration. If your going to do one subframe, why not two at the same time.

Bit of engine work done this weekend.

Pistons in, oil pump & camshaft in.

Next will be the front plate & then the joys of cam timing.

As this engine block was bare when I purchased it many moons ago, I've been robbing general parts from an old seized A-Series 850 engine to fill the gaps.

This is the front plate cleaned up & ready to go. I've also countersunk the two lower attachment screws to clear the duplex timing gears.

I ran a tap down the threads to clean as well.

Might throw this plate in the sandblaster for a final clean before fitting.

Due to some inclement weather this weekend I was able to hide away in the workshop & get some engine building done.

Cam timed in using vernier gears. These are the Minisport ones. I wasn't very impressed with the location bores. Took some fettling to fit at all.

Also although the position is adjustable a dot on the cam gear would have been nice to get it in the ball park. I used an old gear to mark it up before fitting. Will be triple checking this setup before I seal it up.

Did some work on the cylinder head. It would have gone on but I need some new valve stem seals. Also need to tidy up some rockers.

But got studs, fuel pump blank & water pump on. Hopefully have this engine assembled as much as I can for now this week.

Managed a quick hour last night to build the head up & plonk it on.

Just a few jobs left on the engine & that's done for now.

Need to rebuild the gearbox next.

Dug out the gearbox for Bob this weekend.

It is a reconditioned unit from the late eighties, Silverseal if anybody remembers that service.

It's a remote, period type box for this car.

It didn't do many miles before it was stored away. Unfortunately it got flooded in storage so has suffered some corrosion.

I got a rebuild kit from Guessworks last week. So have started the strip down.

I'm not expecting much to be worn, just corroded or seized. It got soaked in anti-rust jollop so now turns over ok.

First issue has been undoing the drive flange nuts. I've already put a question in the problems & tech section.

I've done some work on gearboxes before, but never tackled a full strip down & rebuild.

always got someone else to build them. But it's about time I learnt the last major mystery for me with minis.

Also intend to rebuild a gearbox for my Mayfair soon after.

Gearbox strip down is proceeding well.

I have got the drive flanges off & first big nut undone.

Diff out. Unfortunately it look like the crown wheel has some nasty corrosion on a few teeth.

So will be replacing that. Annoyingly I had one somewhere. Purchased many decades ago!

But haven't located it yet.

My gearbox education continues.

Apologies for no pics this time. Phone died.
