Gave the blast cabinet a go last night.
I took advice from Machine mart man on grit options. He suggested soda blast for aluminium.
It didn't do a bad job. Got the worst of the corrosion & paint off, but only really tickled the surface.
Would be good for delicate items or panels.
So I tried some 80/120 grit. Much happier with results. More the typical sand blasted finish. It's not quick & the process needs some refinement. But it's proved the point. The casting looks alot better already.
Also while I was on a roll, I swapped the main bearings around on the engine build. All ran nice & sweet. I can only presume I had some debris on the crank or bearing cap causing it to bind. I'll get some new bearings & try again as the first set got scored.
