did you ever find out what the chemical cleaner was that the blocks went swimming in?

No, I never got an answer.

Thanks for the continued support. I will be doing something with Bob in the near future. Just need to get my workshop tidied up first. Junk everywhere. But hoping it'll be more straight forward build than the MK3. A bit more there to start with. Will probably be building an engine for this one too. So watch this space.

Just a little update on this project. I am starting it slow as my workshop still needs more tiding. But I took the block to SpamSpeed in Stonehouse for the cam bearings & centre main cap machining. Done in a couple of days. Ready for some basic parts to go on. I will be mounting it on an engine stand first.

A quick post to keep this thread afloat. Other projects have delayed this one considerably. But it's not going anywhere. Tucked up under sheets in the dry.

I've been collecting parts for this one in the background. Going for a grey interior, so got these very nice classic seats.

Just need another wing & I think I should have all the anticipated panels.

Ok, technically some progress at last. Although not much of it yet.

I've not got enough space & time to pull the car apart yet. But I have got enough space to start the engine.

As the parts are all in danger of gathering rust again then now is as good a time anyway.

It's going to still have to be a stealth build due to time constraints. So stealthy even I won't know I'm doing it.

I've purchased most of the new parts needed to get a half engine at least.

So started cleaning up the block. It's not particularly dirty or rusty but I'm going to try & get it as clean as possible before & as I go.

I've laid out some old tables & will have the engine on the stand before too long.

Some more progress on the engine.

Cleaned some more and a bit of paint.

I was just looking at how that red block came up with the rust remover - having only discovered Deox through the forum I wonder how I managed without it for so long!

Definitely agree. Getting rid of the rust has allowed me to use this block again & make some decisions on some other older parts. Well worth the effort.

Yes they are nice. I got these from an Ebay auction. But Minispares sell them as well. Probably available from general Cobra stockists.
