The red coloured block is done with some hammerite I think so won't be staying. Whichever block will probably have the classic green mowog engine colour.

I ment the colour of the mini!!!

the engine has come out well!

Yea, I wondered that after posting. The body colour won't be staying. It looks good clean but maroon is very prone to fading. I saw an old A40 in the same colour the other day that took hours to look presentable..! Also it's pretty dead in places, lots of small pitting. New colour will be a surprise but period.

My ears are burning - Hours to look presentable..???

You mean days...!

Used the 15% discount to get some parts lined up for Bob. Mainly things like window runners & door stays. But also the rubber gator for the gear stick. Could double up as part of my dalek costume for the xmas fancy dress..! And pushed the boat out & got the fifth minilite wheel as a spare. Body panels weren't discounted sadly so will get them another day.

No more progress with this one yet. Got to finish other stuff first really. But it's always on the back burner.

Random update. Not exactly progress but certainly a positive move forward. I finally cleared enough space to get the mini into my workshop. Towed & rolled happily. Nice to be able to have a good look round it again. trying to get a good idea of where the rust is. Firstly car in the workshop.

Wings will need replacing. Passenger side badly fitted.
Posted Image
Probably front panel as it seems to have gone quite badly at the bumper seam & front valance is badly dented.
Posted Image
Drivers rear floor & sill is pretty much missing.
Posted Image
And finally something artistic..!

Will record some more of the rot when I get another chance to jack it up.
I still need to finish my mk3, so won't be spending much time on this one yet. But might get the odd moment to start stripping it down.
It'll go on the spit jig which will make life alot easier.

Lots of spider fun there. I evicted loads of big brown hairy buggers when I pulled the sheet of Bob. The strip down should scare the rest off hopefully.
Good luck with yours. I'm sure the floors can't be as bad as above.

Got some more odd jobs done last night. The passenger door opens but trys to depart company with the rest of the car. Can catch you out if you don't remember. The drivers door catch mechanism was seized & the handle had broken off. Managed to get the drivers door catch apart & get the drivers door open. Makes getting in & out of the car alot easier. The early doors are so much easier to deal with. The passenger door looks in pretty good condition so far. The drivers door is fairly rotten though at the bottom. If I can't get a replacement it'll need a new frame bottom & new skin. Not sure if these are easier or harder on early doors to get right. With my mk3 project I replaced alot of panels. Mainly because they were rotten or distorted. I'm hoping to do more repairs on this one as it's better to begin with.

Just for fun, I connected some power to the car. A few bits of the electrics worked. The engine turned over well & it even had a spark. Got it to fire using some easy start. Definitely never looked like a runner. But looks are deceptive. I won't be using this engine for this project, but nice to know it's not that bad.

Still keeping this one on the back burner until the MK3 is finished. I've been collecting parts though. Some body panels & wiring loom now added to the boxed up bits. Keen to get stuck in & start cutting out the rust. But have to be patient.
