Looks so nice, I'd love to own a Mini like this one day, honest and original. Good luck :)

I just got lucky, had an idea, had a sniff on ebay & voila. My wallet is lighter..!

Just a little update. A friend of mine has a tub of some cleaning solution that cleaned up his engine block nicely completely from rust. It's got a limited life span so he's keen to use it while it's fresh. I've got a couple of engine blocks that I had been hoping to use as possibles. I get one or both cleaned up & report on the progress. I'll let you know how it goes & what the cleaning solution is if it works. Some before shots first. One's a plain a-series 1275 block in need of a re-bore. The other is an 11 stud a-series 1293.

The red coloured block is done with some hammerite I think so won't be staying. Whichever block will probably have the classic green mowog engine colour.

If you need any body sections, we're cutting up the remains of a mk2 soon (has a good roof and bulkheads) send us a PM as its not too far from you.

Can't wait to see what you do with this one after the work that you've put into the mk3 :)

Ok, this is the results from the red painted block. Pretty happy with the clean up. It's got 99% of the rust off. Doesn't strip the paint. The bores look so good I'm tempted to give them a clean up & see how they look to use. The internal waterways look alot better. I still haven't found out what this cleaning stuff is called but will post as soon as I find out. It's all enviromentally friendly & gives off no fumes. I've got some old cranks being cleaned now. Before & after below.

Nice result with the block, very similar to mine. Left mine in solution for a good week and cleared the channels pretty well

Yea, I wondered that after posting. The body colour won't be staying. It looks good clean but maroon is very prone to fading. I saw an old A40 in the same colour the other day that took hours to look presentable..! Also it's pretty dead in places, lots of small pitting. New colour will be a surprise but period.
