Hello & welcome to my build thread for a 1969 850 MKII saloon. Bought Bob (in plum colour) from ebay a few months ago. I fancied doing something retro racer/1960's style. I couldn't justify the cost of a MK1 or upsetting the purists. So the MKII was the next best cheaper choice. It's a tatty shell but very complete. Panels are generally pretty good despite it's appearance. It'll probably need a new front. One wing is a badly fitted replacement & the other is pretty rusty. The front panel has some holes so will need reviewing. Like most old minis it needs a new floor. Sadly the boot lid is pretty rotten but I've managed to get a new old stock heritage mk1 boot lid. Likewise the bonnet has just gone too far. But a 2nd hand one was obtained at Himley. The suspension is a nicely collapsed hydrolastic system. This will be replaced with dry subframes. I've dug out alot of old bits I had stored & have started collecting some parts for when I need them. Engine will be a 1293 or larger a-series with twin 1.5" SU's. The updates on here will be slow because this will have to wait until I have finished my mk3. Probably start properly late autumn. It looked pretty grimey when I first got it, but a good scrub got it looking alot better. It's the same age as me & looking about the same state! Pictures to follow shortly.

Mate i thought you would finish one before you picked the bones out of another. Fair goes though he looks in a lot better nick than the other beastie.

Thanks, I'm a glutten for punishment. I miss all that welding & grinding. But it is in better condition than the mk3. I must have learnt something.

It is nice & original although quite tired. But your right it does have character.
