I have been reading the stolen section and as my Mini lives on the driveway was wondering how good the factory stuff is. My car is a 98 Cooper with the standard kit & i thought it was quite good. Is it Thatcham approved?

Not that I know of. If someone wants it that much, they'll work out a way.

I've found that a good tracker is a great idea.

The problem with the stock alarm is that it eats the battery. Even with huge Deep Cycle unit I have, I found that 3 weeks of no running and it is close to dead.

Many I know with Mpi's use these now.

I'm going to install a 200amp breaker in mine, it will do the same thing but will add a level of 'short' protection.

Would you have to go in the boot to cut the battery with that?, and remove any covering items from the battery?

Yes :o

Where as a breaker could be installed on the floor under the driver seat or rear bin etc.
