Hi all,

first of all a big thank you to club admin for their patience and for setting this up.

Sky Insurance are a UK based insurance broker specialising in insurance for modified, performance and import cars. Sky Insurance hold affiliations with over 200 UK based car clubs and forums and offer preferential rates and discounts to car club members. We insure a lot of engine converted and highly modified minis, also classics and modern minis.

Sky Insurance's target market is the car enthusiast, specialising in policies for members of car clubs such as theminiforum.co.uk, we firmly believe that anyone who takes the time to join a car club and who takes pride in their car is a lower risk to an insurer than your average driver.

CRITERIA:

To qualify for the Sky Insurance car club scheme you must have a full 2 years driving experience and:

Be aged 19 or over for Third Party Fire and Theft Cover
Be aged 21 or over for Fully Comprehensive Cover

Our criteria will vary depending on the customer and the car, eg we will not insure a 19 year old on a Subaru Impreza. We do ask that you are able to provide proof of NCB or claim free driving experience.

BENEFITS:

(up to a) 20% discount for car club members
Like for like cover for modifications
Ability to 'mirror' NCB to second cars
Second car discounts
Named driver introductory discounts
Company car driving introductory discounts
Representation on car club forums
Personal service – no call centres
Enthusiast company specialising in modified, performance and import cars.

IMPORTANT:

Please state that you are a member of theminiforum.co.uk when you speak to us (you will be asked). It is very important that you make us aware of your club membership, if you say you 'heard about us on the internet', you will NOT receive your club member discount.

We want to make this very clear right from the outset; we cannot promise to help every club member, we have some criteria to be met and also some exclusions. If we cannot help you, we can only apologise. For the majority however, we should be competitive and be able to provide an excellent level of cover.

Thanks for reading, any questions please contact us by phone, email or PM.

Hi, i am 19 years old and have been driving for just over a year now. Would you be able to make any exceptions?

Footman James have changed their policy and won't insure me because my car isn't 20 years old!!

Please feel free to check out our new online quotation facility here:

http://www.skyinsura...ance-quote.html

If you have any problems using the facility, any questions or feedback, please let us know.

Please note, this will not work for everyone, for anything highly modified we'd need to speak to you on the phone. If anyone gets a price which is over £1500 or seems uncompetitive against your current price/other insurers, please request a call back here:

http://www.skyinsura..._back_new.phtml

For anyone looking for a price to compete with a classic car policy, this quotation facility will not work. Please speak to us on the phone.

You would not quote me on an MX5 as it was an import - I got your details from the MX5 forum.

You need to be flexible ti insure classic cars as they are all different and may not fall inside your standard tick boxes!!

Having seen a lot of the goings on after this lot posted a similar post on the MX5 Owners Club website a while back (maybe 12 months ago) I personally wouldn't even waste the effort to ask them for a quote again on anything and I'd advise everyone else to save themselves the wasted time.

My MX5 is a boggers UK Mk1 I'm depressingly close to 40 with 20 years of driving under my belt and no accidents within the last 5+ years. The car is kept in a brick built alarmed garage and hasn't covered 1500 miles in a year that I've owned it.

You would think I would get fairly cheap quotes wouldn't you......

I pay less to insure my daily driver diesel that sits on the road than this shower wanted for the MX. Lord knows what they would do if I tried them with the GTM.

Lets see if we can strike a balance though - has anyone had a sensible quote from them? If so how - by phone or online? Did you go on to take out a policy? have things gone smoothly? (documents arrived in reasonable time with no nasty or unexpected clauses etc.)

Iain

yes, we offer these, it needs to be a good example and usually on a limited mileage policy.
