Don't over tighten the cover - see the torque figure.

You could stick the gasket to the cover only to make life easier

I normally use a bit of RTV Silicone sealant to keep the gasket on the cover, but none between gasket and block. That way when I remove the cover the gasket stays in place ready for re-fitting.

Some rocker covers seem to have real trouble holding a gasket in place once its tightened down. My old one was like this.

My solution was as cooperman says, I used some RTV sealant to essentially glue the gasket in place on the rocker cover, left that to dry and then get the other side a slight smear of hilomar before bolting it on.

Yes I remember the alloy one I had on my last engine had a habit of pushing the gasket in or out every time, bloody nightmare, evo stick is a very good option for the gasket to cover joint.

like sai you dont need to use sealent but i tend to use a bit of Loctite 5910 Black Gasket Sealant on most gaskets just to give a helping hand and that bit extra seal. is really good stuff and not too dear

If its an alloy one I just milled a groove all the way around and use a large O ring cut & glued, never leaks, no need for sealant, and reuseable time and time again... ;)

Spay glue also works and comes away cleanly in the future if when you need to change the gasket.

That does sound like a very good idea! Maybe offer it as a machining service?

The rocker cover torque is only something like 2ft/lb (finger tight), most get overtightened which is why they don't stay put.

Don't you lose a lot of rocker clearance height, Martin?

I had thought of drilling the cover edge to take pins that'd stick in the cork.

Yes Ethel you have spotted the flaw, it doesn't work with all variants unfortunately..... that is 1 reason why I haven't pushed out in to the market place, the other is its a ball ache to set up... especially with all the variants and the range of quality..

Also depends on the camshaft used as well..

It does however work with my DSC Windsor roller set ;)
