New brake pipes for my 1986 mayfair, what size, and imperial or metric ? Plenty of "all you need kits" on Ebay, any experiance of them ? The positive and the negative battery cables do they degrade with age, is it worth chaging them, if so what with what spec cable ? Many Thanks.

VERY IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTE RE: BRAKES

If you have the brake compensator valve on the front bulkhead the threads are M10 Fine, whilst all the other brake pipe union threads are 3/8" UNF. M10 Fine is very similar in thread form and size to 3/.8" UNF, so be very careful to get the connections correct.

Not one of Austin-Rover's better design efforts!

There are other areas that use M10 as well... such as brake master cylinders etc....

M10 will not fit 3/8"unf
3/8"unf will fit in to M10 but is a sloppy fit.

If it sloppy fit don't tighten it, check it out first.

And as Peter says it wasn't one of AR's better ideas

Yes, I was asked to sort out a Mini where the 3/8 UNF had been 'graunched' (love that word) into the M10 UNF hole! Expensive cure. I insisted on changing the compensating valve. I have heard of drilling and Heli-coiling' the damaged thread, but it's not something I would want to do.
