That could be a bit tricky as its probably a taper thread?

Equally, you don't want to be risking bits of metal dust going in the engine.

How overtightened was it? Could you do it with a good quality easy out?

I've used left handed taps for that kind of job in the past with good sucess.


I have used the left hand taps but it aint shifting, so yes tight indeedy, I know what you mean with the metal bits in the engine, thinking of hoover nozzle next to it and dremmel on low speed,.....

If you've tapped it out left handed then you could use a left handed bolt to unscrew it?

Heat up the area around it with torch to help it as well.

will heat it up tmr with torch, and try not to put car alight and find a left handed bolt,......Halfords? B&Q?

anywhere on a mini a left-handed bolt, still got the other one to do, otherwise it will be Monday, there is a place in Monkmore

Had free afternon so I stuck him back in the garage an got to work.

Fitted the new rack and then some new rear subby mounts. Rather worrying was the loose tower bolts!!!

nice bitta progress there,....all new bits......could do with a bitta paint to I guess....

I had no luck with heat on bit in engine, so tmr going for set of bolt extractors. give that a go if all fails.......next move

The engine would have to come out for it to go in a milling machine to remove the 'easy out'
