Hi
I have cut away the heel board as the sub frame bolts had siezed solid and was rotten also on the same side there is an oversill fitted so i decided to take alook to prepare myself.
anyway in the photo what am i pointing at as the inner sill doesnt go that far is it some sort of strenghener in the companion box

Inner sill, once upon a time it was actually all the same the same steel pressing going right across the car from door step to door step. It might have been retained for the seat belt anchor, with countless patches around it.

I think you mean the "closing plate" for the inner sill or sometimes called a "stiffener"

Inner sill stiffener although this is a fabricated one but very similar to the proper part

Thanks for the advice just to make sure is it just a continuation of the inner sill to the heel board welded to the rear quater panel

No it is not welded to the rear quarter panel. The rear arch close out panel is welded to the rear quarter panel and the heelboard, the stiffener is welded to the close out as well as the inner sill. There will be a gap between the quarter and itself.
