Having a serious problem with water ingress into the car, coming through the cross member under the seats.

Drilled holes in the sills to allow some water to escape and increase air flow which has made a difference, however I have now discovered that the drivers side jacking point has managed to rot a hole which i presume is how the majority of the water is getting in and flowing into the cabin.

So at the moment the carpets are out and have a few spares towel to mop up any mess.

Going to weld up the jacking points and I also have replacement door catch rubbers, as i believe water is getting into the cabin here as well.

The front screen rubber that was fitted not to long a go has started to leak at the lower passenger side. I believe this is down to a scuttle corner repair panel being welding incorrectly by a previous owner.

So I will also be going back to the place i had my screen fitted to ask them to remedy this for me.

Fingers crossed nothing goes wrong in the next few months, as i have University trips, holiday, tax, insurance and MOT to pay for between now and the end of the "summer."

Thought id update this.

The drilled holes + new door check strap rubbers (replaced with upgraded foam ones) stopped the water ingress so the carpet is back in the car for now.

Wheel bearings and Cv joints have been noisey for a while so started that job yesterday.

Putting the car back together and the track rod end thread is knackered so got a replacement.
However now the old track rod end wont come off as the tightening nut is stuck on.

MOT was booked for today however iv had to postpone obviously.

So im a bit stuck for now until i get get someone to try and get this nut to budge.

In other news i painted my rear drums black as they were letting the car down a bit with the new wheels

Proper job

Not much going on...just using the car lots and lots, trips up to Sheff and Notts up and down the M42 sitting at 70/80mph all day long no problem and University almost everysday.

Millage fast approaching 70,000.
40,000 in three years isnt too bad going.

Gone through another set of wheel bearings and ball joints though so something isn't right somewhere, although i do use the car a heck of a lot.

Got its winter wheels back on, looking a bit sorry for itself.

Door seals are once again in effective...the car rattles, its cold and always has water inside it.

Fitted a new battery, type 075 Pug Diesel battery. Can't fault it, best change iv ever made. No trouble starting no matter what the conditions.

Also having loads of trouble with Minispares heavy duty wipers. Absolutely terrible. Dont clean the clean, leave smears all over the place and the rubbers split in the matter of weeks.
Been back a few times and im finding the customer service poor as i get fobbed off by saying that "mini wipers never cleared the screen in the first place"

Welllll, my previous bosch blades did the trick for 2 and a half years so why have tow sets of yours only lasted a few months.
The most recent set have already split.

Also while i rant, iv been through three petrol caps as the locks keep dropping out or the keys get stuck...another example of poor quality items from minispares.

Might be alright for people with show cars, but how about those of us using the car daily...we need items that can withstand some form of use.

Not impressed.

Car has reached 70,000 miles and is being a right pain in the arse.
All manor of electrical problems, leading to lots of replacing switches and fuses and relays, fun fun fun.
Still the hazards, heated screen and interior light to sort.

Oil and filter change, plugs and leads, cap rotor arm condenser and points and set up roughly...running better but not great.

Start motor playing up, had to call breakdown to get her going the other day, could do with refurbing/replacing.

Rust setting in, watching the salt eat her.

Needs a new front end amongst many things, however i will keep her plodding along and pumping money into her until the time comes when i can afford to treat her to a whole lot of new metal.

Going to tidy up in form of a few mixed rattle cans when the sun starts to shine again.

Pictures...

I'm at that stage, since I crashed mine and quickly got it back on the road it's just been even more downhill than it already was

Its horrible watching all my rust just get worse and worse and now I'm at the stage where I'm looking for a cheap run around so I can give the mini a break and start stripping it down at least for some major TLC

Do like your mini though

Yeah its the winter blues.

All that money spent and it rewards me by being a pain in the arse and looking much worse than when I get her.

meh.

Get her looking nice once the snows gone and shes not doing 11,000 miles a year as she is currently.

Bring back the summer...

Theyl be back once the salt has gone, then i can get away with a authentic 'rat look,' the tatty minilites just bring the whole car down really..

Hard to crack the whip when i need the car most days and its -5 outside and your trying to fish the grommet out the bottom of your washer bottle when its pissing down with snow so you can refit the wash pump youv'e just unsiezed just so u can have the pleasure of driving up the m1 the next day...

its been one of those weeks...

A more positive update next time i promise
