The entry went in beginning of January so I had roughly 8 weeks to get it all back together. Sounds a long time but with family and work commitments it really only equated to a few stolen hours here and there.
The beginning of February the realisation of how many bits and pieces needed to be done so every week night has been spent in the garage ( and many after midnight finishes).
The position of my garage has also been a factor as it right underneath my sons bedroom so any noisy tools or welding had to be done during lunchtimes or the odd opportune hour at the weekend.
The plan this week was to get it mot’d Monday , paint Monday night, rebuild Tuesday night and get it back home. Use the car Wednesday and Thursday to put some miles on it and Friday to get it to the event scrutineering!
This is how the week actually planned out.....
Came home pick up the car , car wouldn’t start, battery low? Tried jump starting the car but it would not fire. After 3/4 of an hour checking spark etc gave up and had to go back to work. Missed the Mot slot.....
Monday night : Fitted a new battery ,still wouldn’t fire but I noticed that the dizzy cap was loose. I marked the dizzy with a sharpie and removed it. The threads had stripped into the distributor body so it was drilled and tapped and job sorted.. or so I thought.
In putting the dizzy into the vice to drill it the mark had disappeared. Luckily I found a photo I had taken a while back so roughly fitted it in the same position.
Still wouldn’t start
Checked the fuel system but it wasn’t pumping right to the carb,I noticed that the pipes into the inline filter were not straight and looked curved. There was a small crack where the pipe went into the body and it was drawing in air. Replaced it and poured some fuel into the carb and the engine fired up!
Part 2 to follow....

Sounds like you had your work cut of Si and kind of a good thing the ToC has had to be postponed. The weather has been terrible and I don't blame Mike and the team for making the call......dangerous out on them lanes and not everyone has M&S or winter tyres fitted so it would have been carnage.
Also feel for you on the 'stolen hours' in the garage. I've had so little spare time to work on the cars it kind of explains my lack of progress. I have come to the conclusion though that I prefer spending time with my family over spending time in a freezing garage, so that kind of makes it easier to sit indoors and play with Duplo!!!!!
Best of luck getting the mini back fighting fit though.
