A bit more testing tonight. The heater, main and dip beam all working. Couldn't get the wipers to work so double checked the new connector I had put in the loom was all ok which it was. I know the original connector had corroded which is why I replaced the plug
Posted Image
I had 2 more motors one of which was good and worked when plugged into the new loom but the wheel box threads were too far gone
Posted Image
So it was just a matter of changing the wire and spindles, if you have never done this before then it's quite simple. Remove the 4 small bolts off the cover on the motor. Inside you will see a wheel with the linkage attached
Posted Image
Remove the circlip and the washer underneath and disconnect it. Then it's a case of doing the same with the old motor and reversing the procedure ( it was cleaned and regreased before the cover was bolted down)

Another job done and a celebratory beer !

.. and a celebratory beer !

Cheers!!

Looks like you're making good progress still. I just can't motivate myself to go out the garage at the moment, as the cold plays havoc with the arthritis in my knees, I just wish spring would hurry up & arrive!!

Are you still aiming to do any events this year?

What've you done with your old car then? Making a new project? Or just selling it? Cracking work by the way!

One thing I've added this week is a separate oil pressure light, having had an engine seize as the diff pin broke and blew a chunk out of the diff housing. I could have saved the engine if I had a oil light that worked!! Lesson learnt

That's on my 'to do' list as well - I was lucky once, I had fitted one to one of my Escorts having read the Boreham preparation 'Bible', & seeing how the works cars had a big red light, I had to have one too! Which was fortunate when my properly torqued up sump plug (really, it was!) came loose on a 'test' session....!!

Hey dude glad to see the project is coming along nicely :) I've been thinking of doing some road rallying myself but i have no idea of the regs? What would i need to put back in to make it viable? and also i've heard people just place the back seats and carpet in the boot lol? is this true or are they pulling my leg lol?

I'd like to see how they get a back seat & carpet into the boot of a Mini....!!

The 2013 Blue Book regs for trim in road rally cars says;

18.1.4. All major internal trim as fitted to the body type
by its original manufacturer when offering it for sale
must be retained. This trim will include headlinings,
inside door panels, carpets and rear seats.
18.1.5. Front seats may be improved or replaced.
18.1.6. The trim, including the rear seat may be cut to
allow the fitting of a safety cage.
18.1.7. If equipped with a non standard fuel tank it must
be separated from the driver/passenger compartment
by a protective bulkhead of non-flammable material
preventing the passage of fluid or flame.
18.1.8. Full harness seat belts may be fitted.

Hi lofty, long time no see, keefr beat to this one. From what I remember of yours then you would have to do very little to get it to road rally spec, just the trim/seats do need to be there

Hope you didn't mind me butting in, but I was immersed in the Blue Book at the time (again), so it was dead easy to cut & paste the reply! I'd noticed that many stage events still had a road rally car class, so was trying to find out if that would be an easier preparation route than a full blown stage car. It isn't, you basically have to build a full blown stage car with interior trim....!!

Also wired in the number plate lamp which I had forgot. New crank has arrived and a mate is coming round to build the engine tommorrow

No they are what ive always used! Ive always found the adjustable ones to be a pain to find to adjust and that they are inconsistent.
what do you use?
