The trouble is they changed alot of the rules to make it harder to logbook, hence why Andy Burtons 306r4 is no longer used. Now that was a car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They are indeed always changing the rules and regs, the MSA have been under a lot of pressure from the FIA recently regarding safety, both for drivers and spectators. Although they always keep putting the bloody minimum weight limits up for stage rallying, bit of a pain for anyone using a mini!

Cars looking fantastic though, your miles ahead of me!

Certainly was, I loved that Pug! Real shame they got rid of cars like that, simply because the engineering in many of them was so good, & they were so entertaining. It's one of the things I still like about hillclimbs & sprints, as Formula Libre cars can still be used.
It's surprising how many rules are still the same over many years though - I recently found my 1978 Blue Book, & a lot of the rules are very similar, just been tweaked some over the passing decades!! I do have to say that the minimum weight for a stage rally car that Tahiti Joe mentions is another new one on me! Good job we're intending to stick to hillclimbs for the time being, withe everything I'm not aware of!!

One I have heard of being enforced so far this year on road rallies is the 86db 2metres from the side of the car. New standard cars have been tested and failed. Loads on the rally forum about it, and Lampeter have put the results on their website. Carmarthen are now organising a test night for next week, and north Wales have one the week after that.
Last time the mini was tested it was 92db but the limit was 98db. As I havnt sorted an exhaust for the car yet I will need to find the best flowing but quietest exhaust !!

Minimum weight!!! Christ I need to look at the new blue book just incase, surely they could only do it as a percentage of the manufactures listed minimum weight,

That makes mine over the limit too. Twin maniflow systems are too loud me thinks

Was your reading of 92db measured at 0.5m though?
I'm concerned about this news (not got my 2013 Bluebook yet) as my first eevn is about a month away....so need fiddling/bodging time..

Rats!! Our manifold has cracked & the Min is off the road until we can get a new one (after payday unfortunately), as I would have loved to take it down & get it tested. I have a suspicion that with the single Weber & stage 2 LCB manifold with just a rear box that it would be too loud even for hillclimbs which is still 96db at 2.0 metres! I think we'll probably go for a complete new system & get some filters for the Weber's trumpets...

Its at 2/3rd's maximum RPM.
Just had a look at some proposed regs...and straight cut gears in the transmission are looking at being prohibited!

I know , yes it was at 0.5metre, and i do wonder if they are doing it from the side of the car as the escorts transmissions seem louder then the exhausts. Right time to check the blue book. I use the maniflow twin box system so does anyone know if the rc40 is quieter?
What event have you entered?

Also has anyone had trouble fitting the rear cardboard piece of the headlining the fits in the corner between the side and rear glass, what a pain in the a$%£. Got fed up with trying so fabricated some vinyl to do the job and glued it in place

I initially paniced and thought that tests were taken at 2m and lowering the limit would cause me problems. My twin Maniflow system passed the old 0.5m test with ease so i can only assume i won't have a problem with new rules. Cooperman runs a maniflow back box and a rc40 centre which quietens the system down i assume?
Its the straight cut gear ruling that i'm concerned about....no way to temporary fix that one!
I think you are 100% right....its the escorts they are after. I don't blaime the MSA really, as some escorts are full on stage cars with normal body work and make silly amounts of noise. To be honest i can't really point the finger...my car ain't exactly standard!!!!

Tour of Cheshire (day time historic) is my first event, but got road rally and 12 car lined up for march also. Autosolo next weekend too.
The question you asked about the card C pillar covers.....they go in when before the window rubbers go in.

A guy i know over here who does road rallying and owns several classics, he runs a MOT station so i'm used to pop down when i need, very useful :)
I'm running a twin box centre exit RC40 + a cooper freeflow, when using an air box and a single carb the things is below 90db at about 4.5k rpm.
With a single HIF44 + ram pipe and sock filter i get close to 95db, but noticed cars with other exhausts (maniflow, sportex etc) are slightly noisier when revved.
I have to work out if twin HS2s + ram pipes and socks will make the bloody thing even noisier
