Good move getting the Wipac i've got them fitted to my mini and the difference between the standard lights and Wipac is like day and night.

Nice mini.

Bad start to the week, walked into the garage Monday night to find something had scratched one of the mini doors! Gutted!!!
Tried to touch it up but it looked awful, nothing for it but to rub down the scratch , primer it and top coat it. Luckily I had some of the left over paint put into aerosols which made it a bit easier, just need to let it harden before I 2000 wet and dry it then buff it

It's rubbish and heartbraking when that happens.

A friend who has recently had a very rare prototype TR4 painted has stuck foam all over his shell to help stop this happening.....bit late though now i suppose!

It gets worse ive last night i colour sanded the bonnet down the the primer! :mmkay: just spoke to my painter and hes going to blow them over for me next week, at least if he has them i cant damage them anymore. I shouldnt be bothered as it will be taking some serious abuse but it is nice to see it looking new and shiny

I did however managed to fit up the perspex for the front doors, so heres how it worked out

First of all i fitted the rubber into the door frame and made sure the perspex was tight into the channel at the top
I had some 25m square tubing lying around which fits the channel inside the door pretty well.
Posted Image
Then i marked a line on the bottom of the mounting onto the perspex up inside the door
And marked the top line of the door and the width of the mount
Posted Image
Then took the mount and the perspex back out and copied the markings from the back of the door to the front of the door as the door is the same shape and level all the way along( the top line is the door frame line and the bottom line is the bottom of the mount line)
The small rectangle at the bottom was then cut away ready for the mounting to fit onto
Posted Image
Then the mounting had a slit cut down the one edge, the mount then slides into the rectangle cut out in the perspex and is pushed up so its in the slit of the mount
Posted Image
Everything was then fitted back into the door and and 2 holes drilled through the door into each bracket
The brackets were taken back out and the holes drilled out to take 2 rivnuts in each(will have to take a picture), then re fitted to the door
and 2 allen bolts fitted and tightened up. I have on order some button allen bolts which will sit more flush

I was gonna say that after your first event in the new shiney shell it will look distinctly second hand!!! Very funny......"at least if he has them i can't damage them anymore"... :D

Hi, not long joined the forum & have spent the last couple of days reading through all your thread - what a great build & a fabulous rally car you'll have at the end of it!! I haven't done a road rally since the late 70's - back then we basically used tarmac stage cars! For my sins I always used Escorts - completely stripped interiors, twin cam engines running twin 45's, single box exhausts (with some brillo pads stuffed up the tail pipe if the scrute was being snotty!!), 4 Super Oscars, pre-plotted routes, marked maps & all sorts of other politically incorrect stuff! The top boys in the Motoring News events I did were basically using works group 4 spec cars and reaching speeds close to what they would on a tarmac stage rally! I'm glad that all that nonsense has stopped now & that road rallying has been able to continue. I was always put off taking it up again as I thought there'd be just too much traffic about - even in the small hours of Sunday morning! Do you find many problems in that respect? And do all road rally organisers require crews to provide marshals for the event? The good thing is that the rally prepared Clubman my son & I have just bought is stage prepared & would require far too much effort to put into road rally spec or we could be far too tempted! It'll just be sprints/hillclimbs for us (stages are just way too expensive)

Once again, great work on producing such a lovely car!
Keith

Thanks Keith,Im aiming to do it for road and stage, but dont tell the wife :shy:
Always nice to hear about the motoring news championship, people go misty eyed over it and i wished i was around during that time!! I know Jon Bloxham and love hearing about that era. Have a chat to cooperman on here you may know him, as he used to compete at the highest level during that time.
I navigate sometimes in a mk1 escort and know how much fun they can be......

In todays events there are still escorts over 300bhp, 2.4ltr sequential boxes, grp4 etc but the Msa are trying to kerb the power and make things a bit more equal. We have very met cars once or twice in the past but the events have been running up til 7 ish in the morning, which is a bit disconcerting. Again new regulations about distances and timing of events is aimed at not allowing them to run so late into daylight hours

I didn't!! Never managed to get out of the novice class on MN events, just wasn't quick enough!! :D

Got into semi-expert on WAMC events, but then got married, had kids, blah, blah, blah so had to give it up by 1980. Can't wait to get out on hillclimbs next year in the Min now!

I'm sure your Min would be great on stages, you've certainly prepared it well enough. And no, not a word to the missus!!

Just read that again, so does that mean they're still running twin 45's? Is it just that the Welsh Association are more strict than other areas? The only contact I've had with road rallying recently was marshalling on an event with my son as he voluntered us to do the event for one of his mates in the motor club. The impression I got when talking to the guys running Escorts & things were that the rules were so strict they were all running basically standard pinto's or crossflows with everything just running single carbs?

Sorry for derailing your thread!
Keith
