Was wandering what sort of tyres you use for night events as i realise some rallies can be quite rough? (but fun tho eh?)
I'm slowly building my clubman into a road rally car and unsure whether something like Maxsport RB1 gravel tyres are needed or just go down the sticky Yokohama route and take it easier on the 'whites' as these tend to be small percentage of overall event length??

I know tell me about it, i had a chat with a scrutineer on the last event i did and there is ways round some of them, ie using carpet on the roof instead of a full headlining. But i will be using vinyl covered alloy door cards to get round them, but the back seat has to be there!Ah just found the "road rallying" section, a bit tighter than the regs for special stages!

oh the whites can cause chaos, cant tell you how many times weve been in a queue waiting for a car that is stuck on white because they cant get grip. We run in the semi expert class which run mid field (around number 40 -60) so if you can imagine the state of some of the muddy/grass tracks they use after that many cars have gone sliding through!!Great looking build.

I always use "gravel" tyres on the front and road tyres on the rear. Ive used both maxsport RB1 and colway rally plus ( bought a load off a guy) both are pretty good with the maxsports better on the real muddy stuff. One thing you will need to get used to is how much they move/ roll compared to normal road tyre, but you just adapt to using them. They are also higher profile usually which means slighty better ground clearence but you may have to modify the front of the arch so they dont catch(as ive done earlier in this project)
If you need any advice on road rallying just let me know

Well my current car uses seats and harnesses that are out of date, they just have to be in good condition and securely mounted.posting on behalf of a friend
my friend is looking at rallying his mk1 polo () does his bucket seat have to be in date and the same with the harnesses as he said he has seen some people without bucket seats on a road rally in north/mid Wales
this is the official line but if in doubt the mas blue book is online
