I'm following this thread as I'm slowly adding bits to mine, the aim is to enter an Endurance/Road rally in a near(ish) future. I'm still in the 12 car stage...

I'm ordering this Friday (yeyyh, it's finally pay day!) the works style lamp bar for my Cibies as I'm not happy with the homemade brackets I currently have but I'm struggling to see how it needs to be fitted. Reading one of your recent posts I understand the grille cannot be removed without removing the lamp bar unless, as you've done, it's modified?

great job you're doing by the way!

Thanks, the brackets that came with the minispares works lamp bar require it to be bolted to the front panels at a right angle to the bar. I think this would fit the mk1 grille (but with modification). The only way round that i could see to fit it without modifying the brackets was to cut 2 x 4inch vertical cuts into the bottom of the grille, so it would slide over the brackets. I wasnt happy to cut a brand new grille so the brackets were modified instead.
Cant wait to get it finished, havent driven an event since march though i have been co driving to keep my hand in :shades:

found this pic on the forum, it shows how the brackets would normally fit with the cut in the grille

looking good mate, remember that when it gets painted it'll grow in size lol i know it sounds rediculas but the primer, paint and lacquer add a mm or 2 so if the gaps seem a little on the big side dont worry about it :) Got most of my wiring sorted a few days ago mate so im almost done :)

Ive been trying to get hold of some black seats for the mini as in road rallying we have to have the rear seats fitted and headlining, door cards etc
A contact through work gave me these as he throwing them out
As you can see they looked quite second hand

I gave them a good clean with a vinyl cleaner

They were quite grubby so they were wiped down with white spirit before breaking out the shoe polish

and the finished seats!!

What regs are you building the car to? As I didn't notice anything in the rallying section of the blue book about retaining rear seats?

yes. for road rallying all the interior trim as fitted by manufacturer need to be kept. seats and seatbelts can be upgraded.
