I started mine with a view to making it ultra light weight, but then realising it was going to be more of a full on rally car I realised that it was never going to be super lightweight AND strong enough to survive properly! Still using ally and carbon a bit though :)

Erm.. I'm putting lots of hours in but not looking a lot different! I'm planning on taking some pics and updating my build thread this weekend, I'm not too fussed to know about exact weight, just a guess and if you think it's a lot different! I started mine with a view to making it ultra light weight, but then realising it was going to be more of a full on rally car I realised that it was never going to be super lightweight AND strong enough to survive properly! Still using ally and carbon a bit though :)
I started with exactly the same mindset but as ive encountered various rot then repairing then with strength has become more important than lightweight. Any minor weight i can save then ive tried to but ive also spent alot of time making making things easier to access to save time when on events,( ie welded nuts so no use of 2 spanners etc)

Have you also tubbed the rear aches or just made the fronts bigger? I'm still considering doing it but it's even more work and being a rally car I'm not going to be running it as low as a racer anyway! May do it anyway seeings as it's a bare shell, only down side is I want to use standard plastic arches which I don't think will fit with a tubbed rear. Progress looking good, when's it gonna be ready?!

Just to let you know I have done the same with my boot lid, I weighed a standard stripped boot lid at 4kg and without the inner skin is now 3kg.

Not a huge amount of weight saved but its done now, at least you can still use the original lock/latch and the support wires.
I have kept the rear arches standard but have trimmed the radius arm bracket incase i use 13" wheels, ive never had the rear arches catch on any event before now so never even thought about it
Now the million dollar question! lol im hoping by the end of this month but realistically it will be sometime in may

Id bought the works type lamp bracket from minispares which comes so you can fit it to front panel just under the indicator and through the grill onto the front panel. As im using a mk3 grill that is removable this wasnt an option so i modified it to fit just in front of the grill

Thanks C4NNON , i used a smear of tigerseal on each before i crimped them up to see if that would help, hows yours getting on?Looking good- just remember those riv-nuts can, do and will spin very easily as soon as they see any corrosion, especially where they are located. I'd use stainless bolts/screws with them and put grease/wax/something protective on the back of the threads too.
p.s. that plug is very smart

I'm ordering this Friday (yeyyh, it's finally pay day!) the works style lamp bar for my Cibies as I'm not happy with the homemade brackets I currently have but I'm struggling to see how it needs to be fitted. Reading one of your recent posts I understand the grille cannot be removed without removing the lamp bar unless, as you've done, it's modified?
great job you're doing by the way!
