Thanks for the info. about fitting the Allspeed frame into a midas. I see what you mean about the frame and the heelboard of a midas. I also hadn't realised that there would be a problem around the headlight area. That is a shame as I wouldn't want to make any bodywork changes to my midas, and buying a proved frame off the shelf is the only route I would go down.
I wonder how the chap from trinidad (I think) managed it, as he has squeezed a 1 litre (I think) micra engine into a Mk2?

Motorways are great as it will sit at 70 all day long.

That was an early 8 valve from a Micra K10, I forgot to say the square towers on the Allspeed frame also clash with the Midas bulkhead slightly.

So the early MA10 engine could be made to fit in a midas if you made suitable changes to a standard front subframe?
I know that is an older designed engine and only 1 litre capacity, but it has a carburettor rather than injection, which would make it a simpler conversion, and I think has a 5 speed box.
If I could magically put one of these older engines in my midas tomorrow, even though the engine is old hat and not very powerful, I think I would!
I must say though that the CG13 engine and box sounds as though it is a brilliant conversion for minis, .......and possibly midas's in the future some time?

I think that rather than fitting the old MA10 engine, you'd be better off looking at a 3-cyclinder engine. It would be better to continue our conversation outside of I_Jonez's build thread though.

Yes of course and my apologies to I_jonez. This is a very interesting thread and an impressive project.
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

However the MOT and insurance run out last week and I'm in the middle of doing up a house so have no money to run two cars so the mini is mothballed for now :-(

Bought a alternator for a different build today. Its from a sirion and its only 100mm diameter (its tiny!). It would be a much better option on any Micra build
picture? part number?

I remember this from the Dutch Micra build thread. Similar no doubt.
I just went and bought a 91 Daihatsu Charade Alternator (Denso) that has a 4 groove belt the same as the waterpump belt! (relevant number is 27060-87721)
Good for 2 reasons, I don't have to sort out a new pulley to get it to work and I now know I have enough belt to drive my alternator properly.
