Apparently the ecu is being processed by UK customs :) let's just hope they don't sting me to much with import tax.

But I'm really impressed that its got here so quick. It will probably be longer getting to me whilst in the UK.

Forgot to say, the microsquirt has arrived. It took exactly 14 days from order to door, 10 of them in customs. Had to pay import tax :-( but it still worked out cheaper than a UK supplier.

Turns out its pretty small, its not much bigger than a credit card

The ecu along with a new fuse box and relays are mounted under the dash. The wiring left is in the engine bay but it hasn't stopped raining today so its currently half finished.

Well I bit the bullet and started to swap bits over, the mpi tank is now in place and plumbed in also the carbs got removed and the ITB'S put in their place.

Now it should be a case of swapping 4 wires at the fuse box and it should* start

Nice! Congratulations, you must be happy with that. How's it go now?
How has the injection effected things? Or is there some setting up to do before a proper comparison can be made.

Not had chance to drive it yet

It was cold and dark so I just got it idling smoothly for now.

There's going to be a fair amount of tunning/setting up Before I can make a real comparison.

I'm sorry if this is a basic questions, but do you use the normal mini gear stick assembly with the micra engine?

Did you have to make a custon exhaust manifold, or would the micra one fit?

And also, can you use the same pedals as the mini?

Thanks

Use the Micra gear assembly, it needs a few inches cut out and welded back together.
The standard Micra manifold fits fine.

Yep use the mini pedals but the clutch pedal has to be modified if you want to use the cable clutch cable.

Oh great, so realistically to do a simple conversation I would need the engine (and exhaust), subframe and wiring loom?

Or is it not all that's simple?

the best bet is to buy the whole micra then strip

Engine & box

All ancillary's

gear linkage

drive shafts

manifolds

ECU

Loom

subframes are the big problem for the micra conversion as they have to be fabricated, although Allspeed now do a frame but its limited to the smaller 1.0l gearbox

Compared to other conversions its probably the simplest but it does throw up the odd problem to over come, every build is different so has its own issues.

I think Allspeed are now looking into producing a subframe for the 1.3 engine (see their website).

I would love to fit one of these into my Mk2 midas, but not sure if it would easily fit, and presumably if you fit the injection system, you also need to change the fuel tank. I don't know much about injection systems so not sure about this!

What a shame there isn't a specific kit out there that you can buy off the shelf to convert your car. I've always been very impressed with nissan engineering and their engines, and I can imagine that this conversion has huge benefits.

Think you can use 1.3 engine with allspeed frame, but on a 1.0 box?

Probably an amazing around-town combination, but a-roads and motorways would get tiresome

Clearly Rob has now realised he made a mistake with the first version with the small gearbox.

http://www.allspeede...n/cg13-subframe

His frame isn't a direct fit in a Midas, the heelboard on the Midas isn't exactly the same as a Mini, and the front mounts are wrong too. You'd also need to make room for the engine in the headlight area. One of us will do it one day.

Ah, thank you.

Whats the micra engine like on a-roads and dual carrageways? i intend to use the allspeed frame so would be restricted to the 1.0 engine.

Thanks
