hi all,
was just digging out bits I had lying around and was going to sell on, found a set of +20 thou pistons that had hardly been used but the company that i used to get the con rods off and rebore the block have somehow damaged the skirts on all of the pistons! (i will be having words dont worry!)
my question is are they saveable? I was thinking about milling a certain amount of material around the damaged area so that the skirt is stepped
(like these omega pistons)
or should i take down the whole diameter so that the bottom of the skirt is flat and not stepped (if that makes sense)
here's some pics of the damage to 2 of the pistons, the other 2 are the same:
does anyone know if it is safe to do this or are they scrap?
Thanks

I would check to see if the dimentions of the pistons are the same across all four. Remember that pistons are not round, so measuring the ovality is going to be difficult. If all four pistons measure up the same, then you might be able to have the bottom section of the piston turned down, but, this will allow the piston to rock in the bore more. The same amount would need to be machined off all four to keep them in balance.
Personally, i think they're scrap.

Ask whoever damaged them to pay, it's the best way to get money back for them rather than selling then to someone who does untold damage to their car, themselves, someone else etc
