I am in the same (looking for a decent welder) boat and have been umming n arring about this welder,

http://www.weldequip...mig-welders.htm

big question is, is the min 15 amp output worth the price tag or are you better off just buying a cheaper clarke ect.

If you can afford it, go for it!!

Portamig is my next choice of welder.

Not sure if the 15amp is really worth it, but it would be handy to have. It looks a well made and sturdy bit of kit as well.

I'd have one tomorrow.

I think you need to ask yourself how much welding are you going to do now and in the future.

If you have the money then like Shifty has said buy the Portamig but if you are only go to do the odd repair or two then maybe the Clarke range would be better suited for your needs.

I spent a lot of money on a Einhell mig in the early eighties and that lasted right up to 2001 before it cried enough. However i was doing a lot of welding so not sure how long another welder would have lasted. I have a Clarke for now for about 8-9 years and apart from a few minor issues has worked really well.

You are looking at double the money so is it going to be value for money for you??

I have the 135TE Turbo (sounds so chav  ) this is what i have used on Erm and Paddy and its holding up well so far. Its never cut out on me due to over heating, the only issues i have had initially were wire feed and a damaged sleeve. The sleeve was damaged due to a damaged section of wire cutting into the liner. So once the damage was cut out and a 5kg spool of wire installed then happy days.
