quick question, is it possible to remove a camshaft from a 1275 A+, without taking the engine out and splitting the engine from the gearbox etc? ii know you can with a 998 as they have tappet chest covers, but is it at all possible to do it some how with a 1275. as i really cant be asked to remove the engine again. thanks.

I've never tried to do this, so don't blame me if its goes wrong.........

Buy 8 of the small telescopic magnets, use them to hold each of the cam followers up whilst you remove the cam.

thats exactly the way i was thinking of doing it sean a couple days ago, that must be the only way really i guess, cheers

Yes - just turn the car upsidedown.......... It has been done using 8 long magnet probes to hold up the cam followers - but one slip and you will at least need to take the speedo drive end off the box to recover the dropped follower, and no idea how you would then get it back in........ In any case - you need to at least carefully inspect the followers to see if they are suitable for re-use, and many recommend you should always fit new followers when changing cams, although I don't subscribe to that idea myself....... But they certainly must not have any pitting or crazing on the contact surface.

But if you are changing the cam, don't you want to use new followers?

Na the cam followers are fine, im putting the standard cam back inside it (hopefully) thanks for the quick reply, just need to buy some magnets lol.

That wouldn't work, think about it....

You may be upside down but you're also on the other side of gravity, this would counter-act the upside down-ness and you'd be back at square one.

Surely thats basic physics??!!
