I found that greasing the rubber did help a lot but it was still a git.
I think I'll try and get it fitting at the spacers as best I can and go from there, at least I can then wire in the fuel sender and get it running.

I used some grease on mine as well but like you guys say it still wasn't an easy job to get it sitting right and even now I am not happy with mine. It will have to wait until it comes apart for rebuild one after all the other things I have going on lol

So another morning on the van my god it was old in there this morning....
Yet still I cannot get the tank to line up.
I can get it mounted but it now where near getting the filler neck surround in.
If I try to get it in the middle of the surround I cannot get it high enough to get the screws in.
I'm at a bit of a loss now...
Might try and hunt a different tank and see if that makes any different.

The tank will bolt up without the surround in but it looks to be about half an inch out when I offer up the surround.
I'm thinking that the holes in the body will have become tight as its been painted since the surround was last in place. I can drill the holes out but this is only going to allow a few millimetres movement.
I also wonder if the valance has become bent in some way when it was just a shell and I've been moving it around.
I don't really want to shell out £200 on a new tank just to have the same issues though.
The plot thickens....

That I stupidly did not Mr.Frosty.
I'll try and get over again this week and take one.
Picture it if your looking at the body the filler neck is too far to the left towards the back of the car.

I wonder if you could put a washer or two under the front tank mounts? That'd move the neck forward.

Well what do you know.. Spurred on by getting a L2B ticket I went for another crack at the tank this evening.
Started out with it being miles out.
But sticking out enough to get the neck grommet in.
Then took it out 5 or 6 times, swore a lot and bashed the tank flange about a bit till I got to this.
It's in enough for me at the moment, I'll need to stick some washers between the plastic spacers.
I did find that minispares actually do a thinner filler neck grommet so I'll have a go with one of them.
