Would it be advised not to get the shell painted before finishing the door then?

he has quite a bit of prep to do first so it would leave me time to get another skin from M-Machine ready for when I get back from holidays. That way he can at least make a start on it for me, he may even fit the damn thing for me. :)

In that case, you should be ok.

I imagined it would go to a paint shop and you would have nothing more to do with it until it comes back.

If you have access to the workshop then do it that way. Remember to try the door on with just the bottom 2 corners of the skin folded over to make sure it fits before folding over the rest and welding it up.

That way, you will have some slight adjustment should you need it

It really is amazing how much difference a few mm here and there makes.

It's so easy to get the skin on crooked and not realise until you come to fit the door and it's too late

Scrap skin anyone? I might keep it and hang it on the wall as a memento. ;)

One thing I have noticed is that the genuine skins have a lot less material on the flange edges.

The crease line is much better and the door frame looks better at the top. I'm going to have to drill out the hinge holes in the skin/door by the look of it as they do not line up.

Still lots of folding and tapping to go but hopefully I can get some more time on it before the weekend.

Getting so close I can smell the paint.

Luckily the guy painting it for me seems to be understanding and has a "whenever it's ready" attitude.

So the next time I see SAL she should be all Yellow with a hint of black...

Had a right nightmare though with the trailer. When I got there at 8:30am this morning to pick it up I hadn't realised that I couldn't tow a braked trailer on my licence!!! Major ball ache!!! Ended up having to call in a massive favour from a mate that dropped all his plans for the day to come to my aid. Graham I owe you big time for coming to tow it for me.

To be honest it felt really strange leaving the van at Ronnie's knowing that I will now not see it again for around 3 weeks. He has kindly said he will take pictures for me while the process goes on.

So roll on 3 weeks time!
