Did some more welding on the bonnet last night. Unfortunately my mate had his decent welding mask back last week to watch the eclipse, so I've been having to use my crappy one, this meant that my welding was a bit pigeon poopey!!!
Had another play with the drivers door and quite frankly it's getting on a F-ing man boobs!!! I might take the body over to Ronnie and get him to start on that while I think about what to do with the door and whether I re skin it again.
I'm going to get the bonnet finished off this Friday as I'm working again this weekend to pay for the paint.
Guess I ought to try and sort a trailer out if I'm to take it to the painter next weekend!!!

So I got the bonnet finished off on Friday night, gave it a lick of filler and seam sealer on the underside.
I also took a rubber mallet to the door and it seems to be fitting better now.
I'll need to add some weld to the top of the crease to shape it back to the body.
Bit of a gap at the top seam but again some weld should sort that out.
It's a bit low at the top but it seals against the rubber.
Without the door seal it fits almost perfectly. But I cannot find the striker plate for this side so I'll deal with that later.
Then found out trying to set the tappets that the valves are out of sink thanks to the rockers not being set to the cam.
The aim of getting it to the painter over the easter weekend looks a long way off yet!
Thinks to do.
Run some weld on the doors
Run some weld on the door step to sill
Adjust the bonnet
Drill a hole in the load bed so that the rear door locking bar fits.
Weld some pin holes in the front end
Weld a plate in the foot well where I found a hole on Friday.
Getting that done by Easter Monday..... A Miracle!

Use welding rods on the door gaps you can weld them on as a filling strip bud

haha. Yes I got it for £8 I tried to haggle for less with the guy on the stall but he wasn't having any of it.
He said "They're £15 on Ebay you got a steal there" I politely paid him £8 and ran away...
I did actually get talking to him and he showed me a few pictures on his phone of a Cortina he was restoring. He knew his stuff so I really did get a bargain with the badge.

Yes Marc bonnet gaps are sorted there still a bit wide at the scuttle but will do for me.
I've pulled the drivers door off for the time being. I'll take the shell minus the drivers door over to the painters hopefully on Thursday if I can wangle the day off work.
I'll re skin the door when I get back off holidays.
