if your inner a-panel is OK, you are very lucky, I found the replacement ones are a rubbish fit. I ended up repairing mine after taking it off - had to replace most of where it attaches to the flitch as mentioned above.

 

Inner looks fine a part from a few areas of surface rust which i'll blast with a flap disc and treat with some krust. There's a small section at the bottom that I'll cut out of a spare inner I have but other than that its fine.

 

also with the laches, it looks like you're welding stainless to mild steel? You can do this with a blended wire, but it still isn't ideal... did you just use normal mild steel mig wire?

 

I had the feeling the latch might be stainless. I'm going to borrow my cousins rivet gun and rivet it to the steal mount plate then weld that to the car this time.

Yeh does look to be stainless, but yeh that could be a plan.. hope you get it all sort mate

just read through a bunch of this thread and am incredibly impressed with the work you've put into this van. so amazing. I just picked a van up myself and am just enjoying it for now, but will be going through this same thing eventually! def going to keep this thread handy, a lot of great info!

If you can do it yourself do is all i say ive relied on others before and it got me nowhere! Its been a great of sometimes frustrating learning process but the satifaction of doing it yourself more than makes up for it.

I do have 1 question for you: where can I find a rear barn door like you posted WAAAAAY back? that thing looks cool!

 

And once the car is worthy of a thread I will create one. Currently it's just in my garage waiting on registration plates. hoping to get them soon!
