So I decided that I would have a week off the Van after last weekends door fitting shenanigans!

With the help of a very kind Rosslin Racing I should have a corner step section winging its way to me very soon.

Sunday I plan to get back on it for the run up to Easter when I hope to have it back on it's wheels.

Then I can think about getting it off to the painters.

Must stay positive.

Well the section of step from Mike (Rosslin Racing) arrived yesterday so offered it up when I got home from work. Looks to be a good fit but does mean that I'm going to have to peel the A panel off.

Only other things I did was try to fit the hinges on the rear doors to see how they line up. Couldn't find/have any bolts long enough to fit through the bottom of the door so gave up on that.

Then thought I'd have a go at fitting the skin on the near side instead. Started off well, ended not so well. Im struggling to get the lip to bend round the door frame at the lower corner near the hinge.

At this point I gave up and went in as it was freezing too.

It never rains but it pours.

So started to peel the patch off round the corner of the step and in here lay the problem I think. This patch is a good centimetre from where it should be and in no way follows the original line of the door frame.

Started off.

Offered up the corner to see if I could get away with not peeling the A panel off..... Not a chance.

I couldn't really get a decent photo that shows how far out the patch was. But the lighter section in the middle of the hole is the remaining old frame that the plate was covering up.

Then started to peel the A panel off with a claw hammer and the grinder.

And that's as far as I got.

Need to order a new A panel though anyone got any links to decent ones?

Others wise I'll just go with a M-Machine one.

Until next time.... You stay classy San Diego.

That doorstep they put on is likely a butchered mk3+ one they put on and the profile will plague your efforts to make things fit.

Your right Chris going to have to cut most of it away and start again.

If you want a job doing righ do it yourself.... might just take longer that's all!

I'm Brick Tamland. People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks. Years later, a doctor will tell me that I have an I.Q. of 48 and am what some people call mentally retarded.

Hmm you are likely going to want to pick up a complete mk1 m-machine door step in addition to the outer a panel.... And hopefully only the outer a panel. The door step should go up high enough to cover the damage easily.

A link to a picture of their door step.

Door post looks butcherd also to meet the profile of the wrongly used step might be worth getting a mk1 post also will make life a whole lot Easyer. Just a thought.

Going to get the a panel off and see how it goes from there.

Fits looks better now and the section covers the damage.
