It never rains and all that. at least its a runner now not long before you can benefit from your efforts!!

If it makes you feel any better I have to have my short engine stripped and checked as I am not confident that it has been put together correctly.

Given you haven't got inner wings, wip off that rad and cam cover will be easy access.

hopefully something simple :-)

yes the up side of a removable front end and no inner wings means it should be a painless exercise. Just annoyed with myself more than anything and means more time to fix it.

On the other hand I've decided to use some of my birthday money on a new damper pulley...

Also the clock to L2B is ticking.

I've still got to get the engine bed in, front glass fitted, clutch/brakes bled, dash electrics, engine setup properly, buy tyres for the cooper reverse rims, seat belts and get the seats recovered.....

Argh!

So stripped the rad down fixed the timing cover leak and futted the new damper. Put it all back together ran it up and its leaking from the timing plate now! Looks like I'll be striping it all down again....

Well another frustrating day...

Stripped the rad and timing cover down again to sort the timing plate gasket. Turns out that the gasket was there but the two counter sunk screws where not so the gasket had not sealed. I'd ordered the two screws in the week as I had the feeling that it might have been them.

Took ages to get it back together as the timing gears would not seat back on the cam shaft. Finally realised that the woodruff key had shifted preventing the gear slotting back on.

Got it all back together and started it up to see if I had cured the leak...

Bloody thing won't fire up now but I think it might be low on fuel.

Also more compelling is the fact that it sounds like the gear are catching on the timing cover. I'd heard this last week so when I took the timing cover off I inspected it, there was a domed part on the cover which had a nick out of it so I hammered it flat thinking it would sort it.

It seems not so it's going to have to come apart again to see what it's catching on.

London to Brighton isn't looking hopeful at this stage.

well things seem to be going backwards more and more.

I no cannot seem to get the facet pump to pump fuel round from the tank to the carb. I realised that I also had the fuel filter the wrong way round.

This is how I have it plumbed in at the moment which i'm sure when I read the instructions is the correct way.

IMG_20160305_121119_zpsqtx0xx2l.jpg

There's power to it as I can hear it ticking when the key is turned to position 2.

I wonder if it's the tank as there is almost 10 litre of fuel in there now.

I also tipped a load of fuel down the carb to see if it would fire. I don't think it's sparking now either as it wouldn't fire.

It was running a peach before I started mucking about with the timing cover and gears.

Back to square one! and more and more doubtful I'll make L2B.

Well thought it was time for an update.

I didn't make it to L2B and ended up letting go of my ticket to another van owner on the facebook page.

I've not really touched it since my last post a frankly I needed a bit of a break from it in all honesty.

Got a mate coming round tonight to have a look at it with me though as I still have a timing / ignition problem and it wont run.

Hopefully I've fixed the leak from the timing cover but until I can run it up I wont know.
