Managed to balls up the rear window seal which wasn't a great start either. Got there in the end but I think that threw me off kilter for the day.
Just need to order some oil and i think it might be time to see if it sparks into life.

First time I've heard the engine make any noise in 13 years.
Massive step forward.

Well another day and the van and still no closer to getting it fired up.
I seem to have a fuelling issue now coupled with the fact that I've found a pin sized hole in the fuel tank which is leaking.
We tried to start it with the plugs in but it didnt fire so the timings probably out also.

The pin hole in the tank that was a b..... to fit, pants!! These things are sent to try us!!!
What's the fix new tank or a repair?
Of course you will forget the issues soon enough once if fires into life no long now!
Keep up the good work.

I think I'm going to try and fix it first of all Frosty.
I found this stuff last night http://www.rust.co.uk/0003-slosh-ethanol-resistant-tank-seal-kit/p413135
For £25 + P&P I think I will give this a go first as the hole is so small I can't even see it.
I was about to pull the trigger on a stainless tank from minispares as they have them on offer at the moment. But even so £180 I would rather not have to spend at the moment if I can fix it for £25.

Well spent another weekend trying to get SAL to start and not having much luck. I think there is a timing issue as it's trying to fire, popping from the exhaust and puff of white smoke out the carb mouth.
I've tried to reset the timing even taking the worm drive out the dizzy but I think I'm getting myself confused with which stroke the timing needs to set on.
Got a mechanic mate hopefully popping round this week to take a look. He will probably just change this for that and it'll start!!!
Anyway couple pictures.
Finally managed to get the damn roll pin in the gear selector. Not an easy task to do on your own that's for sure.
Sealed the exhaust with gasket sealer. Can't decide if I prefer it with our without the extension.
Without.
With.
Without.
With.
Still needs some fine adjustments as it's pointing down at the moment.
Moved onto trying to start it.
Oops worm drive in the wrong way round.
Little vid.

That's about as far as I got.

She fires up! Amazing! Quick tweak on the dizzy and it ticks over. I didnt want to run it on tick over though as the new cam needs bedding in. So put some more fuel in the tank and started it up again.
Held it for about 2 minutes around 3k revs... All of a sudden oil starts pissing out the bottom onto the garage floor!!!!!!
Shut it off to find oil practicality flowing out the timing cover. Knackers my nice new oils now all over the floor.
Sounds like the crank dampers catching on something also, probably the timing cover.
So that means I'm going to have to strip the rad side down and hope that I can re do the timing gasket.
