Rover Mini Cooper Sport 1275 MPI
Year 2000

I bought a Rover Mini Cooper Sport and it came without any keyfobs. I installed a new battery and the car started. The car will no longer start, the alarm led stays on solid red and when you turn the key to start it does nothing. I take it the immobiliser is kicking in.
I have a complete MPI loom with ECU, alarm box and all ancillaries including keyfob.
Can I use this keyfob with my mini? I have read the handbook and have tried removing the key fob battery then putting the battery back in and then pushing the lock button 4 times, but no change.
Do I need to change the ECU / Alarm boxes over?

Any help would be appreciated.

Have a look at this website:
www.remotekey.co.uk/cars/rover/rover-mini/#double
The fob needs to be programmed to the ECU - the immobiliser ECU that is, not the engine ECU. You would either have to swap the ECU for the spare one you have or send the original off to Remote Key who can programme new fobs for you.

It may work if you use your spare ecu and alarm unit but you will have to swap both parts as they are coded together then i would get a new fob for the current alarm.

It's also possible to make your own remotes at home using the ROV2 PROGRAMMER:
