Nice project mate ive got the seats they are good but when we fitted some in my mates mini they proved to be considerably wide

the 1.6 vaux engine is the conversion id set my mind after looking at one at bingley this year but the price seemed to build and build

how much have you spent on the actual engine conversion so far including engine and box? if you dont mind me asking

thankyou and good luck

Dean - they have a slight smoke tint to them, its the perspex thats tinted not an added film.

Wayne - i thought the seats would be a bit wide, bit of a concern but it'll be fine i'm sure! The engine and 'box were £500, complete with everything. The kit came upto about £1600 ish. Plus then theres everything else on top and all the little bits etc. It does add up but any conversion will cost more than you think.

I had a quick look at the one at bingley, looks well done, wouldnt want to do something like this with a round nose though, they're tight on space with an 'a' series never mind something bigger.

So were talking £2200 for the conversion roughly?

the seats are wide yes and you need the flip forward mechanisms on the insides but to be honest with work you can get them fitting nicely only thing which my mate hated was they pressed against the B pillars and pressed against each other lightly in the middle but theyre worth the effort and best bargain bucket seats ive seen so far the clubmans i had werent as good

No what you mean about the round nose engine bays it becomes a right pain thats why i loved my clubby as there was so much more space or at least seemed to be, im soon hopefully going to get a clubby estate once ive sold my latest project car :- and go mad with it as it will be my toy car

Yea, must be looking at about £2500 to do it if you have a good shell and dont plan on any other modifications. Its recommended to have a cage as well though, and you really should have decent suspension upfront to compliment the rose jointed arms.

Progress at last!!

I've had the last couple of days off work so i took my shell to my mates workshop (Daniel Furniss), he spend about 11 hours mondays welding it and together we spent about 12 hours yesterday welding and cutting. All this hard work now means i have a solid shell, all i have left to weld is a rear arch, which wasnt done yesterday as i had the wrong replacemant panel, scuttle panel and 'a' panels. Its then just the small matter of getting it painted and rebuilding it.

Easy when i put it like that!

there is plenty of space in the std round nose for a c16se , even more once i get the new exhaust manifolds sorted ... will be room to fit a vauxhall rad !

great work so far ... keep it up

good way to work it. Find out how driveable it is and then do a critique of the engine. At least with the vauxhall, things like a cam change are an easy 1-2 hour job (don't even have to take the head off if you have the proper tools).

I reckon this will be a stonking conversion. My old Astra 1.8i (though an older engine) was such a driveable car. That must have been nearly twice the weight of a mini so I would love to see this one when you wind it up!!!!

Yea i've seen them. Have a look in matts(16vmini's) shop! And look around on www.16vminiclub.com too. Seems to be becoming a popular conversion now, i here a rumour that a certain Tom is thinking about it too! But dont say i said anything!
