A lot also depends on your wiring as well... I always "plumb" tehm in using a relay for maximum effect, I have also used 90/130w bulbs to great effect although illegal on the highway.

Anyone have a simple " how to " for a headlight relay?

( and I do mean simple...I'm fairly simple at electrics )

Nobody has answered the whole question!!

What about the bulbs - this can make a difference as well.

Which magazine did a comparison. It would be best if you could get a copy of it because there was no one bulb that was overall best and the report needs to be read to be fully understood.

I went for the Philips X-treme Power. Other very good (best buys) bulbs were the Osram Nightbreakers and the Bosch Pure Light. I can't remember if the last two are available in the dual filament required by the mini - which might be why I went for the Philips which was not the best buy but still very good.

I can't tell you if I made the right choice - I haven't driven it at night yet despite fitting the bulbs months and months ago! Also it would only be my opinion - whereas the testing done by Which magazine is scientific.

Hope this helps.

Steve

The way i have wired mine in on my road rally car if is to have relays on both main beam and dip beam but using higher ampage wires all the way from the relay to the light units. Ive taken the feed direct from the starter and have found that with that alone with standard bulbs makes them brighter.

I used the Halfords Extreme bulbs in mine, simply because they were on a buy one get one free offer.

The halfords bulbs were tested by Which and did not come out on top - however there's always a balance of how good they are and how much we are prepared to pay.
