just had a look at the price of them at work and there only £12.50 for a new one, and there dead easy to fit, providing there easy to get to,

Getting to it could be interesting - mine's a Japanese import with a/c, so there's an unbelievable amount of pipework and gubbinry crammed in under that little bonnet...

Model:1.3 Cooper SPI
Year: 1995
Description of problem (please be as in depth as possible):

I've been having problems with the battery draining if left for a few days as well, not sure if this would have anything to do with it.

Any bright ideas gratefully received!

Hi,
It is probably a long shot, but you might have a problem with the ECU. It is easy to test though. To find out, leave the car too cool down over night after charging the battery or running the car until the battery is charged. In the morning everything should be cool in the engine compartment. If the relay module feels warm to the touch, a relay is active all the time and draining the battery.
Another test is to disconnect either plug from the relay module after using the car and check the battery in the morning. If it is not dead the ECU is bad.

Here is my experience:

Good Luck!

I highly doubt that the temp sender itself would cause the car to just cut out, it would run badly but wouldn't cut out and work fine 2 mins later. (for information's sake the temp sender is on the bottom of the inlet manifold on an SPi). I'd be checking the basics first, like are the connections to the fuel pump tight and the wires in good condition, has the coil got good connections, etc.

Good luck :D
