Model: Sprite (Turbo)
Year: 1993
Description of problem (please be as in depth as possible): Starter doesn't seem to be clicking or engaging although i have tested it out of the car and on the car directly to the battery and seems to work fine then. Battery puts out 12.5 and thats through the batter cable to the starter as well. The brown wire to the relay has similar voltage as do all the wires on the back of the ignition barrel except than the white/red wire (which i think is the ignition switch) this is on the relay as well. I cant really think what i've done wrong the earth seems good and i get nothing, could it be a wrong relay or maybe have i wired up my fusebox incorrect? but i dont think the ignition goes through the fusebox :/ (piccys below)

Any non-standard parts that might be involved with the problem?
i have a early 198x loom for the centre clocks but autosparks modified it for the pre-engaged starter, correct rear loom plug and fuel pump.

When you turn the key the red/white wire on relay should get a live 12v. This will switch the relay and the brown/red wire should then go live 12v

The brown into the relay should be perminent 12v live.

You can test the relay by putting a positive and negative 12v onto terminals 85 and 86 see if it clicks

ok well i've checked the key turning and the white/red does go live, cant check the engine relay connector as no one is home to help me yet turn the key. Relay has been tested and clicks.....but still nothing so mildly confused.

on the relay i have on the point numbers:

30 - brown, positive battery
85 - wht/red from the ignition barrel
87 - bwn/red to the large spade connector
86 - blk so this is an earth

edit: just tested the relay side and the wht/red doesn't go live...i'm confused

There isn't an old immobiliser in there somewhere is there ??

Either that or I would suspect a break or bad connection on the white/red wire. What about the block connector on the steering column is that a good fit.

i will have a look at the block connector get the pointing tongs out again, if not i'll be on the phone to autosparks see what they suggest as its mighty baffling. its not even that complex the wht/red wire lol

thanks for your help irostoke will let you know what i find!

just an update on what the issue is as i had to call autosparks for help.

under the dash in the group of wires by the switch there is a break in the wht/red wire for an auto box so you cant start it in gear (guess this normally plugs into something). anyway quick plug bullet into other end and works now off the key. so simple :)

big thanks to autosparks for there help as well!
