My car runs better on the supermarket fuel
Put optimax in it for awhile and i noticed that it got worse rather than better.

And you should know with the amount of fuel stops you have to make :w00t:

Mine doesn't, and the fuel sender is broken, which means after ive used about a third of a tank, it drops to empty :nugget:

I run it in bertie. I use to use it all the time in the scooby.

There are running debates as to how long it stays at 98RON for in the tank. Is very good stuff, if a tad expensive!!

I would say it's worth a try, I prefer it, keep in mind tho to see the benefits you need to run several tanks full through your engine to clean it up.

Good idea to keep track of what mileage you get a the moment and what you get with optimax after a while, just incase you get a noticable difference.

Oh and i'm working for BP ultimate later this month, washing car windscreens at the pumps. But im not on commission :cheese: .

Back to that Fifth Gear test....

And in the everyday runabout they made absoutely sod all difference...

Well, that being said...I got 42mpg compared with 35 and 33mpg when I did a two tankful test with Ultimate, ordinary BP and Tesco petrol so how's that work?

It's true that there was no noticable performance difference in my 1.6 16valve bog standard Astra though, just much better mpg.

I run Optimax in my XR2 and the engine runs ALOT smoother and much quieter. Not entirely sure whether it makes the car perform any better but I'm not bothered about how fast I can get to the next set of traffic light, so long as she runs well.

I know the CVH has to be setup correctly, preferably rolling roaded to get maximum results but the TDC needs advancing by a couple of degree and the carb setup differently.

Not sure if a previous owner has done mine but it certainly seems to prefer it and 'I think' I'm getting more miles out of it.

I've never touched Tesco fuel for years. I used to do a weekend run from Halifax to Somerset and found the car responded poorly and I had to fill the car again before driving back to Yorkshire. Using Shell 95RON ran alot better and could get there and back on a tank (in a MkIII Fiesta 1.1).

I Later heard a horrid story about a Ford garage and their new Focus. Several owners took the cars back with abnormal engine faults. The garage found a study done by an experimental group and their results were astonishing. Apparently Tesco fuel is no where near refined as their competitors which allows them to sell it on so cheap. They actually found tiny shards of metal in the fuel.
It turned out the only similarity between the customers was that they all used Tesco fuel.

Don't know how true that is, but I find I get more miles from Shell fuel and since I've not had any problems with my carb getting blocked not had to clean it for a very l o n g time!

Suppose it's just trial and error. Doesn't harm to try it but it's like anything you do to your car... change the wipers and it seems to go faster just because you've changed something :w00t:
