Fifth gear on channel 5 did a test on all the "enhanced performance fuels" cant exactly remember the results but they said the bigger the engine the more of a performance boost you get out of them apparently bp ultimate was the best with which they got 5 extra bhp out of a subaru

Havnt tried any yet but will do in the future

I got mine tuned for Optimax by Bill Richards... by ear I would have thought... I need a rolling rode tune... well, if she doesn't sell of course :w00t: Where near Sittingbourne / Maidstone can I go?? Any Ideas?

Optimax made mine start a whole lot easier... she also feels smoother, and has more poke! :)

I read up loads on it, and basically, higher RON doesn't burn any stronger, it infact resists explosion under compression a lot better... SO, you can get the timing a lot tighter without pre-ignition ocurring... makes sense to me, anyhoo! :w00t: So you can time the spark that little bit later while the air/fuel is more compressed and THEN get a better explosion.

Apparently cleans your engine while you drive too... mine still looks greasy tho! :w00t: :)

Yea, Bill doesn't have a rolling road, I think he uses one near by (ish(think it *might* by Gerald Dale??), but unless you have an invoice from them then it wouldn't of been done there.

I use B.D. Engineering up in Newington. Used him a couple of times now and its been top notch! Perfect for road going minis! Give him a call on 01795 843980.

Just a note if you are after more Octane, Tesco now do 99Ron super unleaded

as far as im aware there are only scattered test sites selling tesco high ocatane petrol and also as far as im aware it doesnt have the cleaning agents the others have.

personally ive used ulimate and optimax, ultimate didnt feel as responsive as optimax.

but its all horses for courses.

How much is Optimax per litre compared to the 95ron? :erm:

If we say, for arguments sake, that the regular 95ron costs 90p/litre... how much would optimax be..?

Guy.

I use optimax the cars, and 100% it makes a difference,

I had the Nissan 200sx (its for sale - clicky) rolling roaded for it and even the tunning place reccommend it

The biggest difference is in the sportier cars, definate improvement
eppecially when used in conjunction with V grooved platinum plugs and a rolling road session power increase of 6% at the wheels, now thats not bad for just changing fuel.

Back to that Fifth Gear test....

They showed that in a HIGH performance engine the Optimax was the best, as it not only increase power but also torque, BP Ultimate to a lesser extent..

In slightly grunted up motor, hot hatch, then the optimax and BP were fairly equal, IIRC the BP showed a little better...

And in the everyday runabout they made absoutely sod all difference...

I suspect the above is mainly due to the sophistication of the the engine management as much as anything else...

I can certainly notice the difference between even standard Shell pump fuel and Optimax in my Polo GT. The fuel ecomony does seem improved with Optimax, and the car seems to have more 'go' (technical description there).

I've always used it*, combined with Castrol Valvemaster Plus, in the Mini, and it was tuned on the rollers on the stuff too. When running the standard 95RON fuel in Germany the difference was noticeable.

So yeah, i'd definitely recommend it.

(* I do have a shell optimax points card too, got nearly 5000 points on it now! Thats £50 worth of free fuel when the time comes!)

My car runs better on the supermarket fuel
Put optimax in it for awhile and i noticed that it got worse rather than better.
