To get the full benifit from it you should really have your mini rolling roaded, but it is an improvement!

well i think i will be saving up for a engine rebuild as i am off to america for 3 months so while i am away have him done. As well as new gear box clutch and stage 1 is what i am thinking. i will have him rolling roaded after that. do you know anygood places to have this done? I have contacted minispeed but havn't heard anything yet cause they are quite close to me. Then i may start to treat him to a bit of optimax!

Used it in my MPI for a few years and not sure if it's in my head
but it does run far better on the stuff
Also been fold it can give a extra few BHP which has to be good

OO just got a very rough first quote at an engine rebuild at worst case senario for my old boy. That would include full rebuild skim clean etc, warn parts replaced(he has done over 100K!!) new clutch, maybe recon gearbox for 2Gs.....what r people thinking? I don't have the tech skill to do this yet or the space or place to do it however much i would love to which i would! oo and a stage 1 kit for him.

i always use super unleaded/ optimax in my sidewalk and it is probably just me trying to justify the extra cost but it does seem to run better on that than it does on ordinary unleaded

As long as your car is set up for it, you can't go far wrong using Optimax, the cleansing agents in the fuel will do a great deal of good for your engine, even if you dont experience better performance or economy.

Just a note if you are after more Octane, Tesco now do 99Ron super unleaded

Ohh and Optimax is 98Ron, most other Super unleadeds are 97 Ron :w00t:

We always use Optimax or BP Ultimate in ours, both Spi and carb. Much improved performance and consumption.

I did some research in my 1.6 16v Astra and got 42mpg with BP Ultimate compared to 33 mpg with Tesco unleaded!! Even with the extra initial cost of the fuel that still works out cheaper per tank!

BP Ultimate diesel works wonders in my Mondeo TD.

But at nerly £1.00 per litre, i use regular unless i end up at that pump.

I only use it when I need the extra oomph, but then again I run unleaded with an additive and octane booster aswell anyway :cheese:

1/4 mile runs = 1 tank optimax

go to tescos and use their 99ron instead. It's cheaper, supposedly higher RON, and did I mention it's cheaper?

As Jammy said though, to make a real difference, you'll either need an ECU that can tell the difference and adjust accordingly, or a rolling road session.

EVO magazine ran a test using a mkV Golf to compare what's available, and came up with this:

Shell 95RON
205bhp / 234 lbs.ft

BP 95RON
204bhp / 242 lbs.ft

Shell Optimax 98RON
209bhp / 242 lbs.ft

Tesco 99 99RON
212bhp / 242 lbs.ft

BP Ultimate 97RON
212bhp / 252 lbs.ft

Sunoco Race Fuel 105RON
218bhp / 248lbs.ft
