Model: Rover Cooper Mpi
Year: 1997
Description of problem (please be as in depth as possible):

When I bought my mini, it came with a rather large centre exit twin exhaust (Janspeed I believe). After driving around for a few weeks I've got sick of the drone, so I bought myself a nice new Maniflow side exit box:

First off, what else do I need to fit the exhaust? I've got two rubber mounts, and I'm going to buy a couple of clamps too (not sure which ones yet, hence not having them already!) and presumably some sealant. How many clamps will I need, I'm guessing just the two?

Now for the difficult bit! I had a look under at how the current exhaust is mounted tonight and it's, well... different:

It looks like the front mounting hanger has been cut off to fit the centre exit pipe:

Any suggestions as to how I could fit the new exhaust? Is the only option to weld another hanger onto the subframe? I'd like to do it properly rather than the Meccano solution that's there at the minute, was wondering if maybe there's a bolt on hanger I could use instead...

All suggestions gratefully received, thanks!

Mini Spares sell adaptor brackets to fit hanger type exhausts onto subframes without hangers. They bolt in place of the rubber mountings and put a hanger bar in the correct position.

Ah great, thanks - I'm guessing you mean this?
EXHAUST HANGER BRACKET ON FRONT OF REAR SUBFRAME

Probably could've done a quick search there first I guess! :P
Looks like a trip down there first thing Saturday will be in order!

I managed to fit it all at the weekend, relatively painless in the end. However it's not without its problems (as ever).

The exhaust knocks on the subframe at the back, when I go round a right hand bend. I had a play with the positioning when I was fitting it but there was no way to get the exhaust rubbers to hang vertically without it actually touching the subframe. As a result they're pulled back slightly (seemed to be the best position), but if it's really bumpy or I'm turning right it still knocks.

Any suggestions? I'll get some photos taken when I get back from work if that helps, but I'm wondering if there's anything I can do (maybe different rubber mounts?), or if anyone could post an underside pic of how theirs if fitted (if they've got a Maniflow on an Mpi)

Cheers!

My Maniflow was a bit of a pain to position on my '97. I'll go take some photos in a minute. Mini4o, you look to have got yours tucked in to the tunnel much better than I have! Are you using a standard manifold?

hi
the manifold is standard, but i have shortened the down pipe by about 1 1/2" .
the side roads on corfu are very iffy i also had to adjust up the rear to miss pot holes

I think I'm going to have to chop my maniflow manifold to give a better angle and height to it. It seems miles out :(

Heres some photos of my mounts. They are both slanted, and I've had to use cable ties to hold it in place and stop the box hitting the subframe. My whole exahust sits below the tunnel, its such a pain in the

That's a really good idea with the zip ties, I'll give that a go when I get home I think, that'll be a much easier fix that wrangling with the positioning of the exhaust and potentially breaking it apart again to adjust.

My exhaust doesn't sit in the tunnel either, it's partly in but sits about the same height as yours. It's OK most of the time, except I took in a multi storey car park at the weekend and the cat was catching slightly at the top of the ramps. Lesson learnt!
May have to chop up my manifold too to get it sat up nice and snug like that.

Thanks for the help guys :(
